HOLYHEAD HOTSPUR v LLANDUDNO – TUESDAY, JANUARY 24 (7.45 pm)

Llandudno will regain second place in the JD Cymru North if they win at Holyhead Hotspur tonight (Tuesday, 7.45 pm).

Sean Eardley’s side will certainly be fancied to achieve that feat, with the Holy Islanders not having won a league game in 13 attempts.

Darren Garmey’s men are one off the bottom with just one victory all season – a 2-0 home defeat of Buckley on August 20 last year.

Llandudno have already won at the New Stadium this season, a 2-1 success in the Nathaniel MG Cup back in July.

Eardley’s title hopefuls also saw off Hotspur 5-2 at home earlier in the campaign.

However, the Tudno manager will not be taking tonight’s task lightly as he will recall many past tricky assignments at Holyhead.

Llandudno are in third spot, 11 points behind leaders Colwyn Bay having played a game more. The Seasiders have an outstanding away record this term – eight wins, a draw and just one league loss on their travels, making it 25 points out of a possible 30 on the road.

CATCHING UP

Reports – Saturday, January 21

Holywell Town 2 Gresford Athletic 0

A 14th straight league win for the Wellmen kept their bubbling season well and truly on the boil.

Johnny Haseldin’s men travelled to Flint Town United’s Essity Stadium for a lunchtime kick-off on a cold and crisp January afternoon.

The game was switched to Flint after bad weather all week made it next to no chance the Cymru North clash could go ahead at the Achieve More Training Stadium.

Gresford are no mugs, as they proved in winning at Cefn Druids recently, and they threatened early with a Dominic Deacon shot which Keighan Jones saved well.

Danny Sullivan’s dipping effort from distance fell just over the crossbar, then moments later Tom Bibby fired inches wide.

Jake Cooke forced Matt Busby into a great stop, tipping over his rasping shot, then from the resulting corner, Sullivan’s header at the far post was cleared off the line.

Town took the lead with 39 minutes on the clock, Cooke with a great ball into the box and Danny Andrews’ glancing header beat the keeper

Zebb Edwards went close to doubling Town’s lead early in the second half, but his shot crashed against Busby’s left hand post.

Holywell went two-up through consistent marksman Dave Forbes. Taking possession in the area, from a tight angle he lifted the ball over the advancing keeper, much to the delight of the supporters behind that goal.

The Wellmen introduced Brady McGilloway for Morgan Murray and moments later he nearly got on the end of a Sullivan cross. McGilloway saw red moments later for a bad tackle.

Down to 10 men, Holywell still tried to increased their lead to no avail. In the dying moments, the visitors had a couple of chances, but their scoresheet remained blank.

Conwy Borough 0 Llanidloes Town 0

Both sides hit the bar in a clash at Y Morfa which finished goalless.

Jack Williams, who had scored 14 goals for Llandudno Junction this season before his recent move to the Tangerines, made his debut in a Conwy shirt.
