Wanderers management were delighted with the effort their players showed to take prolific trophy kings Mally to extra time.

Visitors Mally were on top in the first half, but Wanderers managed to hang on and go into the break at 0-0.

The deadlock was broken after the interval, Adam Hold putting the Junction team one-up. Appeals of offside were responded to in the negative and the goal stood.

Wanderers refused to lie down and came back strongly. Scott Stewart played the ball through for Kris Owen to blast past the keeper to equalise in around the 80th minute.

Another half-hour was needed to settle the tie and Mally got off to a flyer.

In the first minute of extra time Mally scored direct from a Hold corner.

Shortly after they added a third, a lovely bicycle kick by Hold from a corner made it it a hat-trick.

The home side did contest the goal as the taker allegedly removed the corner flag from its position to take the kick, but the referee’s decision stayed the same.

Mally on the run of play were deserved winners in the end.

Wanderers goalkeeper Tobo Brogden was named their Man of the Match, making a lot of great saves to keep the hosts in it when Mally were threatening to run riot in the first half. Brogden also produced some good stops in the second period of extra time.

Hold was voted MOTM for Mally after scoring a very impressive hat-trick, but it could also have been given to Kacper Spirydowicz, their centre back, who was a brick wall.

The Wanderers management said after the tie: “Much closer than our usual matches with them which us managers are very happy with.”
