Bow 4 Abergele 4

Division One leaders Abergele produced a thrilling late fightback to secure a draw and ensure their 36-match unbeaten league record did not come to an end at the hands of Bow.

St Asaph Leisure Centre was the venue for North Wales’ Match of the Day between the division dominators Gele and ambitious, Prestatyn-based Bow, who have aspirations of being in their opponents’ position in the not too distant future.

Prior to the match both teams observed a minute’s silence for Ste Sayburn, a man who played for both clubs (when Bow were Bar Bow) as well as Kinmel Bay and who was loved by all, who passed away 12 months ago to the day.

As expected, Gele had a difficult task ahead of them.

Abergele hat-trick star Liam Roberts hits a free kick

The game got underway with Abergele very much on top. Liam Roberts with a trademark free kick put the men in red and black ahead after three minutes.

Bow came back into the game and a quickfire double from Dan Porter and Tom Weir saw the home side take the lead.

Abergele had Cain Folly to thank for a brilliant penalty save from Weir on 30 minutes to keep them in the contest.

Shortly before the interval a Lewis Moroney corner was volleyed home by the technically gifted Roberts for his second.

Half-time: 2-2

With the game very much in the balance Bow scored shortly after the hour through Richard Hill and and three minutes later Weir bagged his second to leave Gele trailing 4-2 with 25 minutes to go.

However, the table-toppers were far from finished and Liam Roberts headed home after 74 minutes to complete his hat-trick.

Gele made a change in shape and introduced Sam Ashton, Jack Lloyd-Williams and Tommy Lloyd as they searched for an equaliser.

It looked like all three points were going to Bow until Ben Knight headed home on 88 minutes to see both teams take a share of the spoils.

After the game the teams met to raise a glass to Ste Sayburn and released red balloons in his honour.

The eight-goal cracker which had just taken place certainly befitted the great man’s memory.
