Llangefni manager Dan Gregg believes his team is really beginning to gel after seeing them make it four wins in six league games this season.

The Anglesey side thrashed Llanfairfechan 8-1 at Cae Bob Parry last Sunday, player of the match Jen Cox leading the way with a four-goal salvo.

Gregg said: “Absolute top performance today against a side that’s been flying high in their first season. Credit to the whole team, they really are gelling amazingly at the minute.

“We’ve got a steady back four with one of the best defensive records in the league, a top, top goalkeeper in Jess Marshall, and a squad that today showed that everyone can slot in and do a job for us.

Jen Cox scored four goals

“Also, a midfield and strike partnership that do not stop harassing for a minute and wingers in Ffion Thomas, Hannah Owen and Lara Cain that are creative and pacy. Nice week off now to rest and recover.”

With Llangefni missing the near ever-present right back Marissa George to a knee injury, it was a chance to prove the squad had great depth with Cara Hughes coming in for her first start of the campaign.

Sadie Richards converts an early penalty for Llanfairfechan

The rest of the side remained unchanged.

It took just 3 minutes for the game’s first goal and it was Llanfairfechan who struck when Sadie Richards burst into the Cefni box and was fouled. Facing a renowned pen stopper in Marshall, Richards tucked it away with the keeper only a few inches short of making the save.

It took nine minutes for Llangefni to respond when Ffion Thomas played through Cox to make it 1-1

Five minutes later Cefni were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Llanfair area and captain Nia Ginnelly took control. With her manager shouting “hard and low”, Ginnelly wisely did the complete opposite and hit a terrific strike over keeper Jamie Boyd’s head to give the hosts the lead.

Ginnelly then turned creator and played through Cox for her brace.

Ever-smiling, ever-scoring – that’s Ffion Thomas

On the half hour mark Llinos Hughes played the ball to Ffion Thomas who after showing some lovely dancing feet slotted a strike home.

Into the 36th minute and Cox showed her tenacity by chasing down a seemingly lost ball to the corner line and digging out a fantastic left-footed cross over the keeper which landed for Thomas to head in for her own double.

Just on half time, Cefni made it 6-1 with Thomas returning the favour and setting up Cox for her hat-trick.

Great to see Cara Marie (blue) back for Llangefni

Llanfair came out for the second half more solid and never giving up. It took until the 60th minute for Llangefni to break them down, Cara Hughes marking her return with an assist over the top for Cox to claim her fourth goal and 12th of the season.

Sharlee Owen then replaced Ginnelly for some well-deserved minutes after being patient for weeks. Then Lara Cain also got some deserved time on the field when she replaced Cox.

Eleanor Coulson capped her own top performance off with a goal that was again assisted by Thomas. A well deserved reward for the work she put in all game.

Frankie Davies then came on for Megan Summers-Roberts.
