North Wales Women’s League – wins for Llangefni, Bangor 1876, Llanfairfechan and NFA

Danielle Barnfield (6) scored twice for Bangor 1876

NORTH WALES WOMEN’S LEAGUE – REPORTS, NOVEMBER 20

Flint Town United 0 CPDM Bangor 1876 5

Stevie Donougher grabbed a hat-trick as Bangor 1876 made it nine straight wins and stretched their lead at the summit to eight points.

Australian student Donougher opened the scoring on just three minutes from a Jenna Allsup assist.

Five minutes later, Donougher turned provider for captain Danielle Barnfield to make it 2-0.

In the 38th minute Barnfield added her second of the day and eighth of the season for the leaders.

Into the second half and Mia Roberts assisted twice as Donougher moved up to 15 goals for the campaign by scoring on 60 and 85 minutes.

Llanfairfechan Town 3 Llanystumdwy 1

Llanfairfechan are up to fourth after another fine win

Two goals from Morgan Jackson helped seal the win which moved Llanfairfechan up to fourth place.

Jackson struck twice in the first half on four and 26 minutes, Sadie Richards and Elin Jones respectively laying on the goals.

Richards made it 3-0 on 50 minutes, Jackson this time with the assist.

Tash Matthews replied for the visitors in the 71st minute.

Report – Llanystumdwy

Within the first couple of minutes a Tash Matthews free kick from deep inside her own half put Grace Mpuku through down the right hand side.

Her shot from a tight angle hit the post and the ball fell to Sarah O’Hara on the edge of the box who couldn’t quite get the right connection as her shot went narrowly wide.

In the 6th minute, a lovely first time pass from Sadie Richards split the defence, and released Morgan Jackson to finish well and put the hosts 1-0 up.

In the 27th minute the hosts increased their lead.

It was almost a carbon copy of the first goal with Jackson put through, this time by Elin Jones, and once again the striker made no mistake with her finish

Grace Mpuku had a fine game for Llanystumdwy

Before the break, Richards had a shot well saved by Sara Lacey, and for the visitors Mpuku pounced on a mistake between goalkeeper and defenders but had run just wide of the goal and was unable to get her shot off.

The second half started like the first for Llanfair, Jackson feeding Richards, who got to the ball just before the onrushing Lacey, and found an empty net for 3-0.

The game seemed to be over, until a goal for the visitors 20 minutes from time gave them a lifeline. A corner swung in was kept alive by Siriol Clow, and turned in at the near post by Matthews, her second goal in as many games having previously never scored for the club.

The hosts saw out the game well, as no real chances for either side followed.

Llanystumdwy joint-manager Sion Parry said: “I don’t think we can have any complaints about the result, the game was won and lost in both boxes, Llanfairfechan took their chances and we didn’t.

“What was disappointing for us is that we didn’t want to give anything away early on, so to concede after 6 minutes wasn’t ideal. I thought we looked dangerous after that, Grace was causing the defence some trouble, unfortunately for us some good opportunities in the final third didn’t materialise into a clear cut chance, and then the second goal came which seemed to take the wind out of our sail for the rest of the first half.

“Second half we decided we had to go for it, to get an early goal and get ourselves back in the game, but the risk that comes along with that is leaving yourself open at the back, which Llanfairfechan took full advantage of.

“We did eventually get a goal and i hoped we could kick on and apply some pressure for the final 20 minutes but except for a penalty shout for a foul on Grace we didn’t create anything. I do think it was a clear penalty, but in fairness i think it would’ve been harsh on Llanfairfechan had we then went on to get something from the game, i thought from 2-0 up they had the game under control and deserved the win.

“As for our girls, of course we’re disappointed not to get anything out of the game, but it’s refreshing to have a squad of 13, while still having 9 players missing – including captain Hana Wellings. I can’t fault the effort the girls put in from first whistle to last, Grace looked dangerous all first half, and i thought Sian Elin was superb in the second. Siriol Clow playing her second ever game in senior football came on with 25 minutes to go and was amazing, also getting an assist.

“We definitely have positives to take going forward, and hopefully we can show more of that next week.”

Llangefni Town 4 Northop Hall 1

Ffion Thomas (right) was on the mark again for Llangefni Town

Jen Cox bagged the third hat-trick of her Llangefni career to inspire the Anglesey side to a fantastic win at Cae Bob Parry.

Unlucky to lose out at home to Pwllheli seven days earlier, Dan Gregg’s side more than made up for it at the Hall’s expense.

Cox set the ball rolling with her customary early goal, the latest one arriving in the sixth minute.

Northop Hall top-scorer Sarah Massey equalised on 20 minutes, but in first half added time Ffion Thomas put the hosts back in front.

The second half saw Cox strike twice to make it eight goals for the campaign, the win lifting Cefni up to sixth.

NFA 6 Trearddur Bay 0

A return to winning ways for NFA after they lost their unbeaten record at Amlwch the previous weekend.

Megan Pursell, Zoe Stopford and Stella Windsor all netted in the first half to put the Rhyl side three-up.

After the break Ruby McGilloway added number four before Sade Benjamin scored twice, one a penalty, to boost her goals total to 12.
