Previewing this Sunday’s North Wales Women’s Football League games – can Cefni break duck?

Llangefni Town hope to pick up their first win of the season on Sunday

NORTH WALES WOMEN’S LEAGUE PREVIEWS – SUNDAY, OCTOBER 9 (2 pm)

Llangefni Town v Caernarfon Town

After suffering two heavy cup defeats Llangefni manager Dan Gregg is looking forward to returning to league action this weekend.

Cefni take on bottom side Caernarfon at Cae Bob Parry with the focus very much on gaining a first three points of the season.

Town lost their league opener 3-2 to Bangor 1876, putting up a great performance in the process, but then followed a 4-1 Welsh Cup loss at home to Amlwch Town followed by a 12-0 caning at the hands of CPD Y Rhyl 1879 in the Adran Trophy.

It has been a tall order for the Anglesey side competing in cup competitions against stronger, more experienced teams, but Gregg does not regret the move.

He said: “We knew what we signed up for when we entered these cups, especially the Adran, but we’re prepared to take on anyone.

“Hopefully (the cup experiences) it’ll only improve us, but the big defeats against the big teams are tough at times.”

Cefni are at full strength for the visit of Caernarfon, with last season’s top-scorer Jen Cox available again after an ankle injury sustained in the Welsh Cup tie with Amlwch.

Gregg added: “We’re praying for a win, the girls need one for confidence.

“It’s a selection headache for me on Sunday – a completely fit squad, so a good headache.

“We’ll be glad to be back to league action.”

Northop Hall v Denbigh Town

Esra Gunes

Denbigh will be hoping for more good things from 18-year-old sensation Esra Gunes, who netted a hat-trick on her senior debut in a 4-1 win over Flint last weekend.

That result put Town second in the table with three victories from four outings.

The main talking point after the game was the performance of Gunes, a product of Denbigh’s junior system who has stepped up to the seniors this term.

She came on as a second-half substitute and notched three rapid goals.

Town manager Ellen Lawson is aiming for another good scoreline at Northop Hall, who picked up their first point last Sunday in a 2-2 draw at Trearddur Bay.

Trearddur Bay v CPDM Bangor 1876

Aron Griffith’s 1876 side will be looking to maintain their 100 percent league record when they visit Lon Isallt.

Bangor have won both their opening games, but could be in for a decent test against a Trearddur outfit who have taken four points out of six at home so far.
