PREVIEWS

NORTH WALES LEAGUE

CPD Y Rhyl 1879, Amlwch Town and NFA could all go top of the North Wales Women’s League on Sunday, depending on results.

With leaders Bangor 1876, who have 18 points, without a game, Rhyl 1879 and Amlwch, on 16, NFA 15, and none of those three playing the other, the summit could have a different look to it come the final whistles on the Sabbath.

Second-place Rhyl 1879, the only unbeaten team in the league, will welcome Anglesey newcomers Trearddur Bay to Belle Vue.

Bay won their opening match of the season 7-1 against Caernarfon, but as the Cofis withdrew from the league, the result became void and the islanders lost their points.

They did get off the mark, however, against Holywell recently, coming back from two-down to draw 2-2.

With a few experienced campaigners in their squad, Trearddur can give Rhyl a battle, but with Darren Wardle’s side possessing so many goalscorers and a solid midfield and defence, the hosts will start favourites.

NFA have won five on the bounce and produced a superb performance to beat Pwllheli of the league above 3-2 last Sunday in the NWCFA Women’s Challenge Cup.

The likes of Emily Jones and Sade Benjamin are in great goal scoring touch, and Sunday’s opponents Holywell will have to play really well to keep them at bay. NFA could finish the day top if they win and Rhyl and Amlwch fail to do so.

Amlwch Town have been really impressive since the start of the campaign, their 1-1 draw at Rhyl 1879 three weeks ago a true standout performance for a team which has had to rebuild so much.

Tesni Hughes is one to watch up front for the Anglesey side, but visitors Northop Hall have made a decent start to the season too and Lauren Chambers – three goals in two matches – could be a danger.

The league’s other game – Llanystumdwy v Llangefni Town – has the makings of a really good one.

Llangefni have three very good wins under their belts already, but Llanystumdwy have made massive improvements in a very short space of time, having beaten Holywell and Northop Hall and pushed Amlwch and 1876 extremely close.

GENERO ADRAN NORTH

Having grabbed top spot last weekend, Connah’s Quay Nomads will want to keep hold of it, but they will find the going anything but easy at Pwllheli.

If the Quay slip up, Bethel and Llandudno could capitalise, being favourites to come out on top at home to Llanfair United and Airbus respectively.

Wrexham entertain bottom side Denbigh Town. Reds top-scorer Rosie Hughes will come up against her old club.
