DRAGON SIGNS FAW AMATEUR TROPHY ROUND TWO REPORTS

FC Queen’s Park 2 Llanfair United 3

The Park’s proud unbeaten record is over – but they certainly didn’t give it up without a tremendous fight.

Indeed, the tier 4 underdogs looked well on their way to a major giant-killing when they led third-tier Ardal North East high-flyers Llanfair 2-0 at half time of Saturday’s Dragon Signs FAW Amateur Trophy clash.

However, the Powys visitors upped the pace in the second half and ran out 3-2 winners, bringing to an end the Wrexham side’s nine-match victory streak.

The Park started on fire, Liam Davies proving to be a real handful up top and his strength and raw pace was causing Llanfair trouble.

And it was no surprise when the North East Wales Premier Division side took the lead on the half-hour through a Tony Jones penalty, awarded for a foul on Jack Hanley after a delightful cross by Dylan Jones.

Tony Jones’ second goal in the 38th minute was one to behold as he dropped the shoulder and curled a magnificent effort into the top corner with his left foot.

Liam Davies and Dylan Jones had other chances, but come the interval the hosts had to settle for a two-goal advantage.

The Park started the second half well and Liam Davies found himself clean through, but his shot seemed to take an age to roll goalwards and bounced just wide.

This brought a turn in the tide and Llanfair started to dominate the ball.

Richard Davies halved the deficit on 55 minutes before Nyasha Mwamuka made it 2-2 after 64.

With only minutes left on the clock, a poorly defended free kick saw the ball allowed to bounce through to Ben Jones to score the winner.

The Park manager Dave Evans said: “The lads really battled well and should be proud of how far the pushed the table-toppers of Tier 3.

More importantly they should be proud of the football they played, especially the first half, which was fantastic.”

This tie was merely the hors d’oeuvre, as this Saturday (October 8), FC Queen’s Park welcome Cymru Premier side Airbus to The Dunks for a Welsh Cup second round clash which will rank as surely the biggest game in the Wrexham club’s history.

Llandyrnog United 1 Mochdre Sports 2

Winning goal scorer Anuar Seilhanov

What a moment for Mochdre’s newest hero Anuar Seilhanov!

The 25-year-old, playing his first-ever 11-a-side game after moving to the area from Kazakhstan, notched a 93rd minute winner for Sports in Saturday’s Trophy tussle at Cae Nant.

Mochdre started the better of the two sides and Jordan Phillips opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a neat finish, poking the ball past the oncoming keeper.

Llandyrnog then finished the first half the stronger team, levelling in the 38th minute through Tomos Cumming.

The second half was an even contest and the turning point was a straight red card in the 72nd minute for Llandyrnog’s Conor Jones for a bad tackle on Josh Grimshaw.

The extra man gave Mochdre the advantage going into last 20 minutes.

The cup tie was decided three minutes into added time, when playmaker Niall Owen slipped through new signing Seilhanov, who finished well for a goal he will never forget

құттықтау Anuar!

Trearddur Bay 4 Penmaenmawr Phoenix 1

Tier 5 side Trearddur Bay delivered the goods in style as they whipped higher level Penmaenmawr 4-1 at Lon Isallt.

All the goals came in the first half, Asa Thomas notching his 15th and 16th of the season, while Tom Scott and Mel McGinness were also on target.

Daniel Williams provided the sole reply for Phoenix, who were unbeaten in five.

Liam Morris was a hat-trick star as 1876 rattled up the north’s biggest win of the second round.

Taking on tier 5 side Llanystumdwy, the scoring got underway inside the first five minutes when a Corrig McGonigle cross from the left was turned in at the back post by Morris.

A second goal landed before the 10-minute mark from Gethin Thomas. The midfielder broke through the middle and although his initial effort was saved by keeper Elgan Roberts, Thomas tucked away the rebound.

Just after the half hour, Sion Edwards broke down the left and his cross was controlled by Les Davies, who then found the net with a low shot. Four minutes later, Davies headed in another Edwards cross.

A fifth goal for 1876 arrived in the final minute of the half. A long throw-in from Kian Owen on the left landed right on the head of Corrig McGonigle, who nodded in from close range.

Early in the second half, Davies found Morris, who cut inside on his left foot before scoring with a powerful curling effort across goal.

Number seven saw McGonigle lob the advancing goalkeeper to allow Harry Galeotti to net from close in.

Shaun Lock’s long throw enabled Galeotti to add his second.

Lock also created 1876’s ninth when he played the ball through for McGonigle. The prolific scorer took a touch before calmly netting his second of the game.

Morris rounded things off with his hat-trick from a Galeotti assist.

Abergele 1 Llanberis 4

Ifan Mansoor (2), Marcus Orlik and Dion Owen provided the goals which ensured Llanberis progressed at Abergele, Dom Holland replying.

Caergybi 1 Nantlle Vale 4

Stunning winners over past Trophy champions Cefn Albion in the last round, Caergybi were unable to repeat the dose against strong tier 3 outfit Nantlle Vale.
Jamie Jones, a Sion Thomas own goal, Alwyn Roberts and Phil Warrington made up the away total, James Ryan with a late response for the hosts.

Castell Alun Colts 3 Mynydd Isa 2

Jack Jones (2) and Craig Worthington bagged the goals that clinched victory for Colts, George Davies and Harry Lambert hitting back with crackers for the visitors.

Cerrigydrudion 3 Y Felinheli 4

A narrow win for Felinheli, goals from Iwan Owen, Aled Griffith, Connor Japheth and a 90th minute decider from Tomos Davies.

Llion Thomas, Cai Aykroyd and Ynyr Roberts netted for Cerrig, who put up a superb battle and briefly led 3-2 in the closing stages.

Flint Mountain 1 Caersws 3

Craig Harris (2) and Glyn Coney sent the Bluebirds into round three, Ben Brierly with the home reply.

Lex XI 3 Brickfield Rangers 6

A thrilling nine-goal Wrexham area derby went in the higher ranked club’s favour.

Brickfield scorers were Harley Steel, Jay Richardson, Kian Thomas, Andy Vale and Gerson Silva Neto (2).

Josh Betteley, Finley Dyer (pen) and Tom Huxley were on the mark for tier 4 hosts Lex.

Llandudno Albion 2 Llangefni Town 2 (Albion win 5-4 on pens)

Albion gained revenge for a penalties defeat to Llangefni in the 2018-19 Cookson Cup by beating the Anglesey side on spot-kicks to advance in the Trophy on Saturday.

It was a third win of the season over Cefni for the Llandudno outfit, who previously triumphed 4-1 at Cae Bob Parry in the league and 2-1 in the Welsh Cup.

This latest meeting at the OPS Wind Arena finished 2-2 after 90 minutes, Joe Carey and Dean Seager scoring for the hosts, while the Llangefni marksmen were Josh Stanley Williams, who also missed a penalty, and Cai Powell-Roberts.

Llanfairpwll 2 NFA 2 (Llanfairpwll win 5-3 on pens)

A dramatic cup tie at Maes Eilian saw hosts Llanfairpwll eventually go through on penalties.

An all-tier 5 encounter started well for the home side, with Jay Finter notching his eighth goal of the season in the third minute.

No further score until the 57th minute, when David McHugh levelled the game.

It looked like the Rhyl visitors had snatched it when in the 94th minute Ryan Brady scored to make it 2-1.

However, moments later a Finter free kick struck the bar and Aled Davies equalised with a diving header.

So it was down to spot-kicks and Cian Glyn, Finter, Marquis Holland, Dylan Williams and Rees Roberts all converted to see Llanfair to a 5-3 victory.

Llannefydd 2 Rhuddlan Town 1

Two well-matched tier 4 teams played out a good battle which the hosts just about edged.
Morgan Jones and Llion Morris struck for Llannefydd, Dave Sharkey responding for Rhuddlan, who had Harvey Gordon red-carded in the 73rd minute.

Llanrhaeadr 0 Llay Welfare 1

Max Peate’s 86th minute goal settled a hard-fought tie.

Llansantffraid 0 Llanuwchllyn 0 (Llansantffraid won 8-7 pens)

Disappointment for Llauwchllyn as they lost on a shoot-out at Central Wales League North underdogs Llansantffraid.

Meliden 2 Bontnewydd 0

Dylan Ford and Luke Astley came up with the goals that guided Meliden to victory over Bontnewydd, whose manager Simon Jones was shown a red card after the final whistle.

Nefyn United 6 Holyhead Town 0

Josh Piper, Guto Sion Roberts (pen), Tomi Evans, Josh Chant (OG), Mark Jones (pen) and Elgan Jones made up the Penwaig six.

Prestatyn Sports 0 Aberffraw 1

One of the results of the day saw a 90th minute goal from long-serving golden boot Gary Bolton secure Aberffraw’s place in the next round.

North Wales Coast East Premier high-riders Sports were expected to win this one, but it was the giant-killing islanders who once again upset the form book, as has been their way many times in recent seasons.

Home team manager Sion Williams was shown a red-card after full time.

Pwllheli 0 Bethesda Athletic 1

Kyle Hartleb’s 42nd minute goal was enough to clinch a tremendous win for Bethesda at The Rec.

Ruabon Rovers 1 Welshpool Town 5

Ryan Knott and Joshua Lenc both struck twice as tier 3 Welshpool gained an expected victory at Ruabon.

Ethan Kinsey added a single for the visitors, Andrew Swarbrick the sole responder for the hosts.

Saltney Town 2 Connah’s Quay Town 1

Sam Reynolds and Sam Henry gave Saltney a flying start by scoring inside the first 20 minutes, but after that visiting underdogs Quay made life more testing for the tier 3 Bordermen.

The tier 4 away side kept pushing for a goal and eventually got one back through Ryan Hewitt in the 85th minute, but it came too late to affect the result.

Y Rhyl 1879 6 CPD Cefni 0

A ninth straight win for 1879, who have scored 30 goals in the process and conceded just five.

They would have netted a few more than six on Saturday but for the heroics of 18-year-old Cefni keeper Cian Wyn Griffiths-Jones.

The tier 5 visitors would always be up against it taking on a third-tier opponent, but the Anglesey travellers gave a decent account of themselves.

Early pressure from the hosts finally paid off on 23 minutes, Sion Williams firing home low from the edge of the box.

On 32 minutes, North Wales Coast West Division One outfit Cefni would be reduced to 10 men, Luke Miles receiving his second yellow card.

The islanders’ task was now even harder and 1879 went 3-0 up before the break, Jack Higgins and Macauley Taylor on the mark.

The second half saw all the play in Cefni’s half. Chance after chance was created, Kieran Ellis and Alex Jones’ brilliant efforts forcing unbelievable saves from Griffiths-Jones.

It would take until 65 minutes for the hosts to get their fourth, Taylor setting up Ellis, who cleverly dummied the keeper to score.

Substitute Leon Atkins and Chris Bennett added further goals before the end.
