Despite his team losing after putting up a great battle in Sunday’s Welsh Cup qualifying round clash at Rhyl, 1876 manager Aron Griffith felt the visitors deserved better for their efforts.

The all-reds took the lead after half-an-hour through a Danielle Barnfield penalty awarded for handball.

NFA soon equalised via a long range free kick from Sade Benjamin, and the same player put the hosts 2-1 up before half time with a similar effort.

Bangor 1876 had other good opportunities, Sophie Allsop firing over during a scramble in the box and Jenna Allsup running through on goal only to take one touch too many and be denied by a brilliant block.

Commenting on the result, 1876 chief Griffith said “It’s disheartening to lose a game like that but that’s football for you. The girls did extremely well today, giving heart to every challenge and creating the most chances in the game.

“We wish NFA all the best in the next round, as we quickly shift our focus back on the league now.”
