NORTH WALES CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION ONE REPORTS – SEPTEMBER 17

Denbigh (15) 72-1 Buckley (0) 71-10

Eight years after winning their last Division One title, Denbigh have done it again.

The Vale of Clwyd side had long secured an instant return to the Premier, but Saturday delivered the icing on the cake with the crowning as champions.

Home skipper Thomas Schrimshaw won the toss, put Buckley into bat, and the visitors were bowled out for just 71.

Joe Lewis took 4-12 off eight overs, Harrison Jones 3-6 from five and Ifan Jones 2-25.

Needing 13 points to make sure of the title, Denbigh pocketed the maximum 15 after reaching 72-1 in 24.2, Sam Lewis 48 no and Harrison Jones 20 no.

It has been a tremendous team effort throughout the season from a team which won 21 out of 22 league matches.

Stand-outs include Harrison Jones with 736 runs, including the highest league score for the season of 203, plus 42 Division One wickets at a miserly 7.40.

Sam Lewis piled up 661 runs and 31 wickets, Gerallt Lyall chalked up 554 runs and Joe Lewis scooped 39 wickets.

Opener Lyall passed the 9,000 total runs mark for the club during the campaign.
