Menai Bridge know any margin of victory in their final league game of the season at home to Gresford next Saturday will clinch them the 2022 Premier Division title.
The Anglesey side will enter the last round of matches 10 points ahead of second-place St Asaph following this weekend’s results.
Menai could even end up champions if they lose next weekend, depending on St Asaph’s outcome at home to Pwllheli.
Skipper Matty Humphreys produced one of the league’s greatest individual displays of the season as he scored 75 not out and took 6-10 in his team’s mauling of basement boys Llay.
Wales NC North all-rounder Humphreys not only bathed himself in personal glory, but also did his side, who had lost nine games in a row, the world of good in their battle against relegation.
Mochdre chose to bat and were in trouble on 49-4 before Humphreys and James French (50) put on 116 for the fifth wicket.
Their effort ensured the hosts set a respectable 189-6, Nathan Humphreys taking 2-18 off 10 and Ethan Griffiths 2-37 for the visitors.
Llay’s batting was simply blown away, collapsing from 12-1 to 29 all out.
Humphreys’ 6-10 came off six overs, Owen Davies scooping 2-0 from three balls.
Another ruthless demolition job from Menai Bridge put them on the verge of being crowned league champions.
Opener Jack Gower headed the runs deluge with 105 as the islanders posted 283-7 off 50 overs after winning the toss and choosing to bat.
Robbie Jones, now close to beating his highest runs total in a single season for the club, hit 56 – his sixth league half-century of 2022 – and Luke Jones added 44.
For the hosts, Jakeem Forde picked up 4-53.
The home side were blitzed out for a paltry 61, Gethin Roberts with 4-17, Ashley Wood 2-14 and Drickus Visagie 2-18 for the visitors, who made it 20 wins in 21 matches.
Champions Saints did what they had to do and won, but were given a tough battle by an inspired home side.
Llandudno opted for first knock and were floundering on 63-7, opener Sam Rimmington 25, before Lucas Hughes (23) and Tom Thornton (22) ensured the tail wagged and enabled a more respectable final score of 152 all out.
Danny Ryan topped the Asaph bowling returns with 3-37, Dan Evans grabbing 2-9 off 10 against his former club, Gareth Goodson 2-19 and Mathew Ryan 2-29.
Saints lost openers Mathew Ryan and Dan Evans with just a single on the board, but Nathanael Scott and skipper William Ryan (38) steadied the ship with an 80 stand.
The visitors then dipped to 136-7 before Scott (53 no) and Gareth Goodson guided them over the line without further loss.
Thornton took 3-31, Jamie Grimshaw 2-39 and Oliver Hughes 2-44 for the hosts.
One of the most consistent and popular wicket-keeper batsmen in North Wales cricket over the years set some impressive personal milestones on Saturday.
Despite his team’s narrow and gallant defeat at Brymbo, Robbie Marshall made his highest score for Bangor in 11 years, posting 93 off 96 balls including 10 fours and three sixes.
The veteran left-hander also passed 500 league runs in a season for the first time since 2011.
Marshall, who has spent his entire career at Bangor, also moved beyond 9,000 total league runs this year.
Batsmen were in command at Brymbo with the home team cracking 310 all out from 49.5 overs, Connor Davies striking 78 and Fraser Smellie 74.
Idrees Ijaz took 5-63 and Owen Reilly 2-48 for the visitors.
Bangor did really well to reach 290-6 in reply, Marshall’s score the best, while Nadeem Rehman hit 54 not out, Ijaz 50 and Sion Evans 33.
Connor Davies snapped up 2-37 for the Steelmen, whose eight-man attack suffered some heavy punishment.
Iwan Moore was leading contributor with 32 as Pwllheli slumped to just 120 all out at Flint Road.
It was a good decision by Northop to field, Bart Ryan-Beswick grabbing 3-19, Matthew Mullarkey 2-17 and Charlie Collins 2-20.
The home side breezed to 121-1 in reply off 24 overs, Richard Walker 56 not out, passing 900 runs in all matches this season in the process, while James Roberts finished 40 no.
Daniel Williams struck a crucial 77 for Gresford in this fine result for the visitors at Alder Meadow.
Pontblyddyn recorded a decent score of 186-9, opener Stevel Rodney 53 and skipper James Griffiths 49.
Sam Thompson collected 3-31 for the away side, Simon Perry an impressive 2-16 from 10 overs and Daniel Williams 2-39.
Opener Williams bossed Gresford’s response with that 77, Joe Benson adding 34 and skipper Matthew Thompson 31 no in a total of 190-4 off 43.3.
