Reports from Welsh Cup qualifying R2 northern ties – Paul Fleming pair sends Denbigh through

WELSH CUP SECOND QUALIFYING ROUND REPORTS – SATURDAY, AUGUST 20
Denbigh Town 2 Cefn Albion 0
Report: Gareth Jones
What was on paper the tie of the round between two tier three powerhouses ended in victory for Ardal North West hosts Denbigh Town.
When the names came out of the hat, Cefn were the home side.
However, as Albion share a ground with landlords Brickfield Rangers – who also landed a home tie – Ardal North East leaders Cefn had to switch venues to Central Park.
Denbigh made a strong start and on 10 minutes, Nathan Brown’s curling effort clipped the top of the crossbar.
The 18th minute brought more pressure on the Cefn goal, with keeper Jack Edwards pulling off a superb point blank save, with his head, from a Paul Fleming close range hit.

On the stroke of half-time, left-back Harry Lockley broke into the Albion box, only to see his strike just evade the far post.
In the 67th minute the deadlock was finally broken, Fleming with a superb strike from the edge of the box.
Four minutes later, Fleming grabbed his second with a left footed shot which cannoned off the left-hand post before nestling in the opposite side of the Albion net.
CPD Llannerchymedd 1 Bangor 1876 8
Report: the very, very famous sports reporter and photographer

Just over a year ago Bangor 1876 were controversially expelled from the Welsh Cup for cancelling a tie against Llannerchymedd due to Covid concerns.
Fast forward to qualifying round two 2022-23 and one could have forgiven some 1876 fans for fearing something might go wrong again when their team was drawn to travel to…..Llannnerchymedd.
Thankfully for the tier 3 visitors Saturday’s clash went ahead and they achieved a very satisfying 8-1 victory against the fourth-tier North Wales Coast West Premier hosts.
The blues took the lead in the 14th minute when Harry Galeotti found enough space in a crowded area to score from close range.
Two minutes later Cian Williams doubled the lead with a wind-assisted effort from the left wing.
It became 3-0 in the 24th minute when Liam Morris ended a nice passing move with an exquisite chip over the advancing home keeper.
Llannerchymedd reduced the deficit in the 28th minute when Mark Jones converted a penalty awarded after a foul.
Corey Jones’s forceful far post header made it 4-1 at the break.
Another attack down the left resulted in Les Davies scoring 1876’s fifth goal in the 58th minute.
Dylan Williams added his name to the scoresheet in the 69th minute with a sweetly-struck shot. Five minutes later the same Williams made it 7-1 from the penalty spot.
Galeotti completed the scoring with a well-timed run and calm finish six minutes from time.

Two tier 4 sides met at Y Morfa as North Wales Coast East Premier outfit Kinmel hosted current North East Wales Premier champions Greenfield.
An exciting no-score game under referee Martin Trigg was ultimately decided by spot-kicks.
Greenfield captain Daniel Calvert went first for the visitors but saw his strike instinctively saved by Beattie.

Tier 3 hosts Penycae needed a 91st minute decider from Drew Wickens to finally see off the brave challenge of tier 5 underdogs Ruabon.
The visitors got off to a flyer, Andrew Swarbrick and Joseff Matthews putting them two-up inside the first 15 minutes.
A big shock was on the cards, especially when the interval arrived with no further score.

Rhos Aelwyd 0 FC Queen’s Park 2
On their day the Park can beat just about anyone and Saturday was one of those occasions as a Liam Davies double ensured Ardal North East high-riders Rhos Aelwyd were dumped out of the Welsh Cup.
