Unbeaten in four matches, top of the league they have just been promoted to – it has been a good start to 2022-23 for Bangor 1876.
Tuesday night saw Michael Johnston’s tier 3 new boys make it 10 points from a possible 12 with a five-goal beating of local rivals Y Felinheli in front of a bumper Treborth crowd.
The hosts took a 10th minute lead through top-scorer Corrig McGonigle, who beat the offside trap to plant a firm finish into the far corner of the goal.
McGonigle hit the crossbar soon after before the visitors tested hosts keeper Huw Shaw a couple of times.
The rest of the half was generally an even affair with McGonigle twice going close for the home team.
The first minute of the second half saw a long through ball fly towards Liam Morris.
Morris was able to latch on to the pass and apply a calm finish that sent the ball into the side of the net. A couple of minutes later, Jamie Petrie hit the bar.
For next 20 minutes the sides swapped attacks. Credit to Felinheli, they never stopped giving it a go and trying to reduce the deficit.
1876 scored their third goal in the 68th minute when Corey Jones rose to power home a far post header after meeting one of Joe Culshaw’s corners.
McGonigle soon made it 4-0 when he calmly slotted in a penalty for his 14th goal in five competitive games this term.
The scoring was completed in the 86th minute. Morris dribbled the ball into the area from the right wing, waited for the chance to strike and when a gap appeared calmly passed into the goal.
Brickfield Rangers 3 Llay Welfare 1

Goals from the amazingly consistent Harley Steel, Andy Vale and Kian Davies ensured Brickfield ended the 100 percent record of early pacesetters Llay at Clywedog Park.
Jonathan Collo got the away side’s consolation goal from the penalty spot midway through the second half.
Nantlle Vale 4 Bodedern Athletic 0
Jamie Jones, Guto Gwenallt, Ashley Owen and Alwyn Roberts shared the goals for Nantlle in this highly impressive win over promoted Bodedern.
To complete a miserable evening for the visitors, they had Jordan Taylor sent off for a second yellow card in the 90th minute.

Bethesda Athletic 2 Glantraeth 1
Trailing 1-0 at half time to a Luke Winter goal, Bethesda turned things around to win with a pair of strikes in the last 20 minutes from Tomos Hughes,
Gwalchmai 5 Menai Bridge Tigers 3

Although Gwalchmai made it four straight wins to stay top of the Premier, they needed a late penalty to finally kill off the Tigers’ courageous challenge.
Tom Kelly put the hosts in front with an eighth-minute shot which took a big deflection en route to the net.
Gethin Jones doubled the lead on 18 minutes with a fantastic strike into the top corner from outside the area.
A minute later, the Tigers hit back when Craig Roberts’ long pass led to a defensive mix-up, Paul Rowlands taking advantage to chip into an empty net.
Darren Roberts made it 3-1 to Gwalchmai on 27 minutes when he capitalised on a misplaced pass from keeper Callum Tipton.
Pinball in the box led to Gwion Thomas making it four for the home side, but Sion Hogan’s deft lob from out wide reduced the deficit and gave Menai hope for the second half.
When keeper Tipton received a red card eight minutes into the second half, Tigers’ hopes of a revival were badly set back.
Nonetheless, the 10-men kept pushing and Callum Davidson’s cross to the back post was finished off by Callum Hughes for his third goal in four matches.
It was now 4-3 to Gwalchmai and game on.
Four minutes into added time, a pressing Menai Bridge were caught on the break, leading to a penalty which Connor Owen put away to seal the points.
CPD Llanberis 4 CPD Mynydd Llandegai 1
Ryan Owen (2), Cal Macdonald and Adam Lloyd shared the goals which earned the Darans an emphatic win over Llandegai, whose sole response came via a Kurt Hellfeld own goal.
CPD Llannerchymedd 1 Amlwch Town 1
Tomos Jones’ 53rd minute equaliser earned Llannerchymedd a point after a Liam Billington goal had given Amlwch a half-time lead.
There were red cards late on for Llannerchymedd coach Garry Ponsonby and Amlwch assistant-manager Patrick Thomas.
