Division One – Unbeaten Denbigh edge tightest of wins, Halkyn, Buckley and Quay thrash their opponents

DIVISION ONE

Gwersyllt Park (4) 157-10 Denbigh (11) 158-9

Last-wicket pair Archie Sussex and Jake Hall saw Denbigh over the line in a thriller at Gwersyllt.

The visitors came within a whisker of losing their perfect record, but just about delivered the goods to make it 16 wins on the bounce.

The Park won the toss and batted, opener Iroshan De Silva shining once more in scoring 70 which keeps his league average for the season above 100.

The Sri Lankan was ninth out as the hosts were dismissed for 157, Joe Lewis taking 3-24 and Sam Lewis 3-38.

Denbigh were 111-1 and coasting before a steady flow of losses had them 152-7. They then lost two more wickets without addition, leaving them 152-9 and six away from victory.

Here it was Sussex (17 no) and Hall (5 no) who steadied the ship and guided HMS Denbigh into dock for a one-wicket win.

Earlier, openers Sam Lewis and Harrison Jones had made 57 and 36 respectively, Alfie Lythgoe taking 4-33 and De Silva 2-13 off nine for a battling Gwersyllt.

Bangor 2nd XI (0) 76-10 Buckley (15) 77-0

Buckley’s bowlers were on fire as they sent Bangor seconds’ batsmen packing for a paltry 76.

After choosing to bat, the Citizens were taken to the cleaners and it would have been even worse but for a spirited 26 not out down the order from Anuj Lal.

Jack Williams notched 4-13 for Bucks, Fabio Franco 3-17 and Adam Shaw 2-4.

The visitors then breezed to 77-0 in 14 overs, Rocco Franco 43 not out and William Norman 30 no.

Abergele (0) 94-10 Connah’s Quay (15) 227-6

A ruthless all-round performance delivered the Quay a full set of points.

Rhys Stout (57), skipper Tom Hooson (47), Darren Jones (38) and Joshua Clarke (34) all impressed as the away side set 227-6 off 45 overs, Lewis Tolond 3-39 for Gele.

The hosts were then swept away for 94, Sajad Mukhtarzai 3-13, Mali Auty 3-23 and Clarke 3-26 for the Deesiders.

Conwy (12) 217-6 Llanrwst (3) 186-9

Gareth Thomas registered his first ton for Conwy, scoring a crucial 104 in his team’s home victory against Llanrwst.

Opener Thomas’ previous five career hundreds all came with Anglesey side Bodedern.

A Conwy player since 2019, Thomas dominated the batting as the hosts posted 217-6 off 45 overs, Aron Hughes 2-41 for the visitors.

Llanrwst produced a hearty reply, but finished up 31 runs short on 186-9, Aled Hughes 55 and Aron Hughes 48, Rajjenu Britto taking 4-21 off nine and Stan Senior 2-35 for the home team.

Halkyn (15) 280-8 Dolgellau (0) 50-10

Opener Andrew Watkin finished 101 not out, while Ben Roberts struck 58 and Shamar Forde 56 as Halkyn set a mammoth 280-8 against Dolgellau.

In spite of all the runs flying around, visiting international bowler Phil Leeds claimed a vintage 5-35 off nine.

Dolgellau were blasted away in reply for just 50, Jamie Griffiths 4-21, skipper Ben Roberts 2-3 and Nathan Lavender 2-21 for the hosts.

Hawarden Park (13) 105-5 Marchwiel and Wrexham (2) 103 all out

Only Sam Heard-Edwards (29) and Jason Wharam (26) reached double figures as Marchwiel and Wrexham were all back in the hutch for just 103.

James Martin pocketed 3-5, Tom Norris 3-34 and Ian Martin 2-22 for the hosts.

Campbell Marr headed the batting chart with 42 as the Park took 43.5 overs to reach 105-5 and seal a five-wicket, 13-2 points triumph.

Sion Edwards snared 2-19 for the visitors.
