New manager for Amlwch Town women’s team – and Paige is back!

New manager Darren Hughes lines up with the Amlwch Town squad

Amlwch Town women’s team have appointed a new manager for the 2022-23 season.

He is Darren Hughes, who has already had three spells at Lon Bach as assistant to Adrian Jones, Andrew ‘Lefty’ Wright and Ryan McKean with the men’s first team.

Hughes has also managed at Cemaes Bay, Llannerchymedd and Llangefni Town previously.

This will be his first time managing a ladies team.

Hughes was on hand to see Amlwch overcome Llangefni Town Ladies 3-1 at Cae Bob Parry earlier this week in a pre-season friendly.

The ladies also showed off their brand new away kit at Llangefni. It has been generously sponsored by Melin Llynon’s Richard Holt and Mônuts! 💙

Amlwch finished fourth in the North Wales Women’s League last season and this term will compete in the newly-named North East Wales Women’s and Girls’ Football League.

Great news for Town is the return to action of Paige Williams from a break after giving birth to her first child.

Paige was part of the Amlwch teams which won the North Wales Supplementary Cup in 2018-19 and North Wales League Division Two title in 2019-20.

The versatile player, who usually operates as a right-sided defender or attacker, was also a key member of the Ynys Môn team which won an unprecedented silver medal at the home Inter-Football tournament in 2019.

Also back at Lon Bach is the evergreen Sara Williams, who was goalkeeper for Llandudno in their Adran North title win last season, but returns to Amlwch as an outfield player.
