WELSH CRICKET CUP QUARTER-FINAL

Colwyn Bay 291-4 (40) Pontarddulas 200-10 (37.1)
Result: Colwyn Bay won by 91 runs

Former skipper Sion Morris turned back the clock with a magnificent 81 as Bay stormed into the Welsh Cup semi-finals where a home tie with Swansea awaits.

Morris, who has scored in excess of 13,000 league runs for a club where he made his first team debut in 1996, shared in an opening partnership of 127 today with Will Evans (75) to lay the foundations for victory over Pontarddulais.

The 44-year-old Morris led the Bay to Welsh Cup glory for the only time in 2015 in one of two spells as captain, and is now on course to repeat the feat under George Johansen’s leadership seven years on.

After putting on 127 with Evans, Morris then added another 83 with skipper Johansen (63 not out).

Adam Campion scored 46 as the hosts set a mighty 291-4 off 40 overs after winning the toss and electing to bat.

In reply, Pont were soon in bother at 39-3, and although Gary Arrowsmith (64) and skipper Matthew Fisher (52) put on 61 for the fourth wicket, the Swansea area travellers finished up 200 all out.

Patrick Glover took 2-19, Ryan Holtby 2-39, Paul Jenkins and Campion both 2-40, then Morris fittingly grabbed the final wicket to seal the victory.
