North East Wales League: One promotion and a resignation cuts Premier Division to 10 teams

Last season’s Premier Division champions Greenfield will aim to make it back-to-back titles in 2022-23

The late departure of two teams has left the North East Wales Football League’s Premier Division with just 10 members for the 2022-23 season.

Llangollen Town, who finished fifth in the Premier last term, have been promoted after successfully applying for a vacancy in the tier 3 Ardal North East League made available by the resignation of Machynlleth.

Meanwhile, the North East Wales League reports Cefn Mawr Rangers have resigned.

This leaves 10 clubs to make up the tier 4 Premier this season:
Brymbo
Castell Alun Colts
Coedpoeth United
Connah’s Quay Town
FC Queen’s Park
Greenfield
Lex XI
Mynydd Isa Spartans
New Brighton Villa
Penyffordd Lions
The league is working on a plan to provide the Premier with a fuller fixture list.

The tier 5 Championship Division welcomes new teams Acton, Aston Park Rangers, CPD Gronant, Holywell United and Saltney Ferry.

They join existing teams CPD Bellevue, CPD Caerwys, CPD Sychdyn, FC United of Wrexham, Johnstown YFC, Overton Recreational (relegated from Premier) and Ruabon Rovers.

Deeside United have expressed an interest in becoming members but nothing is set in stone.

Making up the 12-team Reserves Division will be:
Acton
Castell Alun Colts
Coedpoeth United
Connah’s Quay Town
CPD Caerwys
FC Queen’s Park
Greenfield
Lex XI
Llay Welfare Colts
Mynydd Isa Spartans
Penyffordd Lions
Ruthin Town Colts

That makes it 34 teams (potentially 35) across the three divisions in 2022-23.
