Path is now clear for NWCFA Intermediate Cup competition to be completed

Meliden (orange) travel to Pwllheli in the NWCFA Intermediate Challenge Cup tomorrow

The path is clearing for this season’s NWCFA Intermediate Challenge Cup competition to be completed – but the schedule will be hectic.

Tomorrow (Saturday) will see Pwllheli entertain Meliden in a second round clash at Recreation Road (kick-off 1.30 pm).

The winners will take on Bangor 1876 in the quarter-finals on a date to be confirmed.

Whoever wins that tie then hosts Bodedern Athletic in the semis.

In the meantime, CPD Y Rhyl 1879 await in the final, which will be played at Maes Dulyn, Nantlle Vale, on Tuesday, May 31.

North Wales Coast West Premier Division champions and Cookson Cup winners 1879 reached the Intermediate final some weeks ago, beating Penmaenmawr Phoenix 4-0 in the semis.

The competition got held up after the first round tie between Meliden and Llanberis was abandoned on December 4 due to an alleged racist comment being made.

After much delay, the NWCFA decided to award the tie to Meliden. Llanberis appealed to the FAW, but have since withdrawn their protest, thus Meliden progressed.

With the final having to be played by May 31, that leaves just 10 days from tomorrow for the remaining ties to be settled.
