Prestatyn Town and Cefn Albion win appeals to secure Tier 2 licences

Great news for North Wales clubs Prestatyn Town and Cefn Albion – they have secured Tier 2 Licences at the second attempt.

The pair had both appealed to the FAW against that organisation’s First Instance Body’s decision to refuse them permission to compete in the second-tier of the Welsh pyramid.

An FAW Tier 2 Licence is mandatory to participate at that level for the 2022/2023 season.

Today the Appeals Body gave the thumbs-up to Prestatyn and Cefn, as well as other first-time failures Port Talbot Town, Monmouth Town and Penydarren BGC.

Prestatyn were the 2019-20 Cymru North champions, but got refused promotion to the Premier on a technicality.

After the 2020-21 campaign was cancelled due to the pandemic at all levels except Tier 1, Town picked up the pieces in Tier 2 this season and narrowly avoided relegation following a turbulent few months which involved much turmoil in attaining a settled squad and management.

With a new manager expected to be appointed soon, it is hoped the Seasiders can have a much steadier 2022-23.

Albion will remain in the Tier 3 Ardal North East, where they finished third this season.

Cefn also had difficulties this term after their ground share agreement with relegated Cymru Premier club Druids was terminated.

Albion had to use other grounds in the area to see out the season and the plan is to occupy Brickfield Rangers’ Clywedog Park as their base in 2022-23.
