Not just one North Wales cup drama – but two!

Another major knockout competition – another delay.

For all the joy of having football back in North Wales after two years of Covid disruption, this season has not half been beset with problems.

A few days ago we reported how the tier 4 NWCFA Intermediate Cup is in total limbo as a bitter dispute between two clubs whose first round match was abandoned due to claims of racist abuse cannot be resolved.

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 await in the final, but at this point – into the second week of May – they could still face FIVE different opponents.

Now it has emerged the NWCFA Junior Cup final will not go ahead on its planned date.

The 2021-22 final was due to take place on Saturday, May 14, but has now been postponed.

The 127-year-old competition, except for the world war years fully cancelled for the first time ever last season due to the pandemic, returned in 2021-22 to be competed for by clubs in the new North Wales coast leagues tier 5 divisions.

The semi-finals were played on March 12, Talysarn Celts beating Llanystumdwy 5-2 and Cemaes Bay thrashing Llanfairpwll 7-0.

However, Llanfairpwll put in a protest to the NWCFA that Cemaes fielded an ineligible player.

This was upheld and Llanfairpwll were put into the final, but Cemaes have appealed to the FAW and a decision is now awaited.

A circular sent out by the NWCFA to members last week read: “We have unfortunately had to postpone the NWCFA Junior Cup Final from its date of May 14, due to an ongoing disciplinary matter relating to the match.”
