A sixth straight win for Nomads whose well-deserved victory at the Essity Stadium meant John Disney’s side closed the gap on leaders The New Saints to seven points.

The deadlock was broken in just the ninth minute when home keeper Jack Flint was adjudged to have brought down Abdi Sharif as he chased a ball down the right-hand side of the box.

Referee John Andrew Jones awarded a penalty, yellow-carded Flint and Rhys Hughes stepped up to notch his 10th goal of the season for the Reds.

Harry Franklin’s header from a Hughes cross was inches away from making it 2-0 after the initial chance appeared to have gone.

Nomads were a constant danger down the right and Marco Fregapane drilled another opportunity wide from an angle.

The visitors created again when a Callum West back-heel found Hughes, whose firm drive was pushed out by Flint and Sharif was unable to convert the rebound.

Sharif and Franklin were both off target with further efforts before half time.

Nomads threatened first at the start of the second half when Noah Edwards’ sliced attempt fell to Jacob Cook, whose volley was superbly kept out by Flint.

Play immediately switched to the other end and Darren Stephenson should have equalised, but could only volley into the arms of keeper Kit Margetson after being found in space on a counter.

Joshua Jones drilled wide from 20 yards for the Silkmen before a corner routine from the Deesiders set up a chance for Franklin, who was denied by a sharp Flint save via an outstretched leg.

In the 76th minute the points were sealed when the lively Franklin broke from the right into the box and was somehow able to find the net past Flint via the tightest of angles for his sixth goal in four matches and 15th in all competitions for the season.
