The NWCFA Intermediate Cup and NWCFA Junior Cup competitions will not take place this season due to the current coronavirus situation.

The decision was made at a full council meeting of the North Wales Coast FA held via video link.

The Intermediate Cup was due to return to the fixture calendar this season having been suspended since 2016-17.

Formerly the North Wales Amateur Cup, the competition dates back to 1894-95. It became known as the NWCFA Intermediate Cup in 1975-76.

That competition was suspended after 1980-81 before coming back in 2008-09, then ceasing again following the 2015-16 tournament.

Bangor have won the cup the most times (8) with Caernarfon Town second on five.

The Junior Cup has been running since 1895-96 and last season the competition was cancelled for the first time due to Covid-19.

It will now miss out again in 2020-21.

Entry monies for both competitions will be reimbursed in due course.

Further news is awaited on other knockout competitions affecting North Wales – and indeed football itself below tier 1.

The current two-week national ‘firebreak’ lockdown has brought about a complete football shutdown across Wales, with the exception of Cymru Premier teams which can operate on a professionally-sufficient basis.

Due to the suspension of the ‘elite programme’, the Cymru Premier will postpone all matches involving non-professional clubs during this period.

Training during this time is also not permitted.
