Rhyl and District Sunday League – Comrades in seven heaven as they hit top spot

Comrades are top of the table after what was eventually a thumping win over an in-form Six Bells today.

The scoreline does not tell the full story though.

Bells were 2-1 up at half time and then level with 20 minutes to go before caving in as Comrades piled on the goals.

Goals from league top-scorer Macca Lewis and Tate Walker had the Rhyl team ahead at the break, Jamie Haggas replying.

The second half turned on a moment of controversy when Haggas headed in for his brace and 15th goal this season, but Bells were adamant the ball had gone out of play in the build-up.

After this setback, the away side’s heads dropped and the hosts took full advantage, Logan Williams, Ryan McIlvogue, Joe Carey, Harry Roberts and debutant Ellis Jones all on target.

Millbank 2

A draw did neither side much good in the league title race, but Millbank will have been the happier after picking up a point at the ground where they had lost twice in cups this term.

Nonetheless, the Rhyl side did lead twice, so may feel this was a chance that slipped away.

The home team started the brighter but Millbank took the lead against the run of play when an Aidan Bell long throw troubled the Mally keeper and Ash Randles pounced to find the net.

Mally pushed hard to level it and after a few chances went begging Dwyfor Williams’ brilliant delivery found Shaheen Ahmed to tap in at the back post.

Millbank retook the lead of the stroke of half time when Bell’s fine ball released Jared Jones, who flicked over the keeper and headed in.

Mally managed to level things again midway through the second half when Benn Lundstram nodded in from a corner for his 15th goal of the campaign.

The hosts now pushed hard for a winner but an incredible display of top class saves from Ben Spencer denied them on five or six occasions, meaning the points were shared.

Bar Bow 1

Y Clwb remained well and truly on course for a title bid with a deserved home success over Bar Bow.

A James Harrison own goal broke the deadlock before Howard Vaughan made it 2-0 from the penalty spot.

Dion Lloyd added a third before James Harrison replied for Bow prior to the break.

The second half was a close affair, but Charlie Jones made sure of a home win with a fourth for Y Clwb.
