There will be no third tier Ardal Northern matches played this weekend – and a number of tier 4 and 5 games have already been called off.

As for women’s football, all eight teams in the tier 2 Genero Adran North are currently set to play, but there are no fixtures planned for the third tier North Wales League.

Yesterday it was announced tiers 3 to 5 men’s football and tiers 2-3 female leagues are permitted to play at the weekend, provided they follow all COVID restrictions and attendances are restricted to just 50 spectators.

Matches already postponed in tiers 4 and 5 this weekend are down to a combination of actual Covid cases in the teams involved and clubs with reservations in regards to conformity with the guidelines set out in the return to play protocols.

Chirk AAA v Chirk Town in the NEWFA Challenge Cup has just been postponed. The reason stated by Chirk AAA on social media just reflects the patheticness of the Welsh Government’s decision to restrict attendances to 50….especially for those games expecting large, money-spinning crowds.

Clubs don’t get that many opportunities to draw in large crowds to give them a welcome financial boost. Totally understandable decision by Chirk.

The Welsh Government does not give two hoots about our grassroots game…..

Chirk AAA state: “Our NEWFA Cup game against neighbours @ChirkTownFC due to be played on Saturday has been postponed.
“Both clubs agreed that the Government ruling of a maximum of 50 spectators was totally unmanageable and, as per Covid protocol, have agreed to postpone the game to a later date.”

Tier 1 Cymru Premier and Adran Premier and tier 2 Cymru North and South remain suspended. Discussions continue on when they can resume.
