Friday reports – St Asaph keeper Luke Jones is the hero as underdogs win on penalties

Llandudno Albion 1 St Asaph City 1 (Saints win 3-0 on penalties)

Keeper Luke Jones was the main hero as Ardal North West League strugglers St Asaph delivered themselves a perfect tonic with a cup success at old rivals Albion.

Jason Foulkes put Saints ahead in the 21st minute via a marvellous strike from out wide.

Albion levelled on 36 minutes through Luke Smith.

In the second half, Asaph keeper Jones made some superb saves and the offside flag saved the visitors on a couple of occasions.

No further score so it went to penalties. Andy Booker. Foulkes and Dan Williams put away their spot kicks for Saints, while Albion fired their first over the bar and had two saved by Jones meaning the underdogs were through!

Oh when the Saints go marching on! ……

Aberystwyth Town 0 Connah’s Quay Nomads 1

Champions Nomads edged up to fourth in the table after Paulo Mendes’ third goal in two games separated the sides at Park Avenue.

Aeron Edwards and George Horan both had efforts well saved by Aber’s Slovenian keeper Gregor Zabret before the visitors took a 29th minute lead.

Declan Poole delivered a wonderful cross from the right and Portuguese midfield ace Mendes scored with a beautiful bullet header.

Zabret saved superbly from Kris Owens before a collision between keeper Ollie Byrne and defender Danny Holmes close to the break meant the latter being replaced by John Disney.

Aber upped the pressure in the second half and Byrne had to concoct a tremendous save to deny John Owen an equaliser.

Despite their best efforts, though, the visitors were unable to level and the Quay picked up a vital three points.

Bala Town 1 The New Saints 4

Bala were beaten 4-1 at home for the second weekend running and slipped to sixth in the table after crashing to Saints, who move 12 points clear at the summit.

First half goals from Ben Clark and Blaine Hudson, then further strikes by Declan McManus (penalty) and Jordan Williams gave the visitors a comfortable 4-0 lead before Chris Sang replied with a late consolation for the Lakesiders.

Colwyn Bay 2 Gresford Athletic 1

Bay recovered from a goal down at half time to clinch all three points at Llanelian Road.

The Colliers deservedly led at the break, their goal coming in the 36th minute when Joshua Griffiths rounded off a fine run with a pass to Kieran Evans, who fired across the goalkeeper to make it 1-0.
Bay had earlier hit the crossbar.

The equaliser came on 76 minutes through Kristian Platt, then after 83, the hosts won a penalty which James Kirby converted.

Llangefni Town 0 Conwy Borough 3

Another bad result for struggling 10-man Llangefni, who had defender Andy Sinclair sent off just before the hour.

Boro bagged the points courtesy of goals from Meilir Williams (2) and Sean McCaffery.

The deadlock was broken on eight minutes when Morgan Murray fed a lovely ball across the face of goal for Williams to tap in.

Williams turned provider on 41 minutes when his cracking pass found McCaffery, who took on two defenders and fired past the keeper.

In the 52nd minute Williams tapped home for 3-0. A flag was raised for offside but overruled by the referee.
