Women’s football previews – can Nomads hit top spot? Cup upsets in store at Llanystumdwy and Pwllheli?

Can ever-improving Llanystumdwy give CPDM Bangor 1876 a big test in the North Wales Coast Challenge Cup?

NORTH WALES WOMEN’S FOOTBALL PREVIEWS – SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 21

GENERO ADRAN NORTH (2 pm)

Connah’s Quay Nomads v Airbus UK Broughton

Nomads need just a draw from their home clash with Airbus to go top of tier 2 Genero Adran North.

These teams have not met in the league this season, but did lock horns in the Welsh Cup, Nomads winning 1-0 at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium thanks to a fortunate deciding goal.

Francesca Scott, who has put away nine goals in three games since signing from The New Saints, will be one to watch in Quay colours, while Airbus top-scorer Tegan Hewitt could be a key performer.

Llanfair United v Denbigh Town

With neither of these sides having picked up a point yet, someone’s luck has to change on Sunday – or even both of them if it ends up a draw.

Llanfair and Denbigh are struggling badly. The Powys hosts have lost four out of four and Town have been beaten heavily in all of their three fixtures.

NORTH WALES WOMEN’S LEAGUE (2 pm)

Holywell v CPD Y Rhyl 1879

Undefeated Rhyl will move up to second on goal difference with a win at Holywell.

Having won their last game 12-0 at Llangefni, Darren Wardle’s side will be strong favourites to finish on top again this Sunday.

Holywell are bottom of the standings, and while they claimed their first ever point with a 2-2 draw at Trearddur Bay recently, the fact the Wellwomen have had six points deducted means they are on minus five.

Northop Hall v Welshpool Town

Welshpool were on cloud nine after achieving their first win of the season last Sunday.

However, the Hall only lost 2-1 at leaders Bangor 1876 on the same afternoon and will be determined to regain the winning habit.

NWCFA WOMEN’S CHALLENGE CUP QUARTER-FINALS (1.30 pm)

Llanystumdwy v CPDM Bangor 1876

No-one is guaranteed an easy ride against Llanystumdwy any more.

The league newcomers are progressing fast. They recovered from two-down to beat Northop Hall 3-2 away a fortnight ago, then last Sunday were unlucky 3-2 losers at Welshpool.

While 1876 are top of the league, they can expect a decent test at Dwyfor Park and with top-scorer Ceri Lois recovering from an operation, Jonny Batten’s side will look to the likes of Lexi Crawley and Ffion Roberts for the goals.

CPD Pwllheli v NFA

Tier 2 welcomes tier 3 in what has the makings of an interesting tie.

Pwllheli’s highly impressive seven-match winning run was ended recently by Llandudno, but the Llyn outfit are packed with quality players.

It’s a long trip for Rhyl-based NFA, who nonetheless have some class operators of their own and lie second in the North Wales League with just a single loss in seven encounters.

Lois Thomas and Katie Bowe may be massive players for Pwll on the day, while NFA’s in-form strikers Emily Jones and Sade Benjamin can definitely affect the outcome at The Rec.
