Ardal North East – Cefn Albion second after 5-2 away win, Corwen lose narrowly at Maesydre

Corwen failed to repeat their home win over Welshpool back in August as they went down narrowly in a seven-goal thriller under floodlights at the Maesydre Recreation Ground on Friday evening.

In a goalless first half, Corwen keeper Josh Williams tipped a low shot from James Clewlow wide before palming a header over the bar.

After the break the away side got out of the traps quickly and took the lead on the hour.

Scott Evans floated a free kick into the Welshpool penalty area, where the ball found its way to Kevin Day, His shot was saved, but rebounded into the path of Harry Pooler, who fired home for a rare goal with his feet.

Three minutes later the mid-Wales Lilywhites were awarded a penalty, from which Ryan Knott sent Williams the wrong way to level the scores.

With 67 on the clock the away side gave away the ball, which sparked a counter attack from the hosts. The ball was played across to James Clewlow, who hit a first-time shot into the back of the net.

Soon after Ryan Knott brilliantly sent a free kick around the defensive wall and into the bottom corner to make it 3-1.

Two minutes later Scott Evans looked to add to his impressive conversion rate from free kicks this season and did just that as his fabulous effort from distance beat the keeper to bring Corwen back into the game.

Corwen had keeper Williams to thank for keeping the deficit at one goal as he pulled off a magnificent save, but unfortunately from the resulting corner Adam Knott was able to lose his marker and head home.

In the final of the regulation minutes Scott Evans set up a grandstand finish as he scored again from another majestic free kick to make it 4-3.

Despite the best efforts of the away side it was the hosts that were given the best opportunity to add to the scoring as they were awarded another penalty. Ryan Knott took, but was deprived of the match ball as Williams pulled off a great save.

Mike Latham was a hat-trick hero for Albion, who overcame a two-goal deficit to take maximum points at Berriew Recreation Ground.

Two goals inside the first 20 minutes from Edward Baker and Joe Haycock put the Rhiewsiders in early control.

Alex Williams pulled one back on 36 minutes and soon after Latham levelled from the penalty spot.

In the second half, Cefn took command, Latham completing his treble with goals on 55 and 58 minutes.

Alex Williams added a fifth for the visitors on 77 minutes.

Llanfair United 3

Three points for Llanfair keeps them third in the table.

Nyasha Mwamuka set the ball rolling for the visitors with an eighth-minute opener.

Paul Griffiths had his penalty saved but tucked home the rebound to give Llanfair a 2-0 half time lead.

In the 47th minute, the hosts were back in the game through Oli Lewis.

Carno missed chances to equalise before Max McLaughlin broke away on the counter attack to make it 3-1.

Cenwyn Bloor-Jones and Tai Jones bagged the second half goals which banked Kerry a welcome victory at Foxen Manor.

Ben Davies (2), Andy Gittins and Matthew Davies shared the goals which delivered Penparcau victory at The Riverside.

Jaden Jones nabbed a consolation for Penycae.
