NORTH WALES COAST WEST PREMIER DIVISION
Bodedern Athletic 2 (Wood 55, Gregg 78)
Penrhyndeudraeth 1 (S Jones 67)
Substitute Casey Gregg scored a stunning 78th minute winner to clinch Bodedern Athletic a 12th successive victory in the Premier Division.
Despite being without a number of key players, including 31-goal second top scorer Asa Thomas, Casey Boylan and Sean Pritchard, Ricky Williams’ side overcame another major test of their title credentials.
Winning manager Williams said after the game: “Massive win for us today. We had four regulars missing, we had to call on the squad and they delivered.
“We were the better team throughout, we played the right way and deserved the three points.”
Boded had previously whipped Penrhyn 7-0 in the FAW Trophy in September, but Iwan Williams’ men were unbeaten since and became the first team ever to take a league point off Bangor 1876 in a 0-0 draw last month.
The rematch at Cae Ty Cristion was expected to be much closer than the Trophy tie and so it proved.
The first half was goalless, but Boded suffered a big blow on 40 minutes when Jordan Taylor suffered what turned out to be a broken shin.
He was replaced by Gregg, but at the interval it remained 0-0.
Ten minutes into the second half, the deadlock was broken.
Leading scorer Marc Evans pounced on a weak back-pass and squared for Tom Wood to make it 1-0 to Athletic.
Penrhyn made a triple substitution on 64 minutes and they levelled soon after when Carl Jones saved a penalty, but Steven Jones netted from the rebound.
The winning goal was special.
Boded played it across the back and worked the ball to Jordie Murphy on the right. He squared to Gregg and the 19-year-old beat a man before blasting in off the bar from 20 yards.
