Ardal North East: Chirk make it eight wins in a row, but Corwen suffer heavy loss

Chirk weathered the heavy rain and blustery conditions in Aberystwyth to come away with a valuable three points and make it 8 wins out of 8 to remain top of the table.

Dale Davies put the Colliers ahead after just nine minutes as Chirk dominated the opening exchanges.

Against the run of play on the half hour, Penparcau equalised when an unmarked Andy Gittins headed home at the far post.

Chirk were dealt a big blow on 40 minutes when Jack Edwards was shown red for violent conduct, a decision fiercely contested by the visitors’ management team.

The leaders started the second period with great intent and defender Matty Williams put them ahead with a fierce free kick from 30 yards on 48 minutes.

Adam Williams added Chirk’s third goal on the hour, making a great run into the box before tapping in from close range.

Man of the match was Dale Davies.

Special mention to the Travelling Beserkers who travelled down by train to support the team. It was much appreciated by all the players and officials.

Corwen 1 (Day)
Bow Street 5 (Ewart 4, 1 pen; Whitney)

Sion Ewart was the visitors’ hero with four goals on a day to forget for Corwen as they suffered a heavy defeat on their “home” Maes Tegid pitch.

There was an early claim for a goal from Bow Street when they believed the ball had crossed the line from a corner, but the officials did not agree.

In the 10th minute the Ceredigion visitors, who represent a village near Aberystwyth, hit a free kick on the edge of the box, which keeper David Walsh tipped over the bar.

From the resulting corner the ball was played to Ewart, who fired into the top corner to open the scoring.

Corwen looked for parity when a shot struck the crossbar and Kevin Day was first to react to the rebound and head home; however his celebrations were cut short as he had strayed offside.

Midway through the half a Magpies throw-in was played into the danger area, where Corwen were unable to clear their lines, allowing the ball to reach James Whitney, who found the back of the net.

Tom Williams went close twice for the hosts before the break, but the interval arrived with the travellers two-up.

After the turnaround Williams turned provider as he played the ball to Day, who slotted a low shot home to bring Corwen right back into the game.

However, just after the hour it was 3-1, when Ewart took possession on the edge of the D and brilliantly curled the ball into the top corner.

The hosts pursued a way back into the game and went close to doing so, but saw a shot cleared off the line.

Scott Evans, from a free kick and Andrew Roberts, with a header, missed the target before it was checkmate to Bow Street in the 82nd minute.

Ewart chased down a short back-pass and lifted the ball over Walsh to complete his hat-trick.

The unstoppable Ewart added his fourth from the penalty spot to put the final nail in Corwen’s coffin.

Rhos Aelwyd 2 (Haynes, Parry)
Llanfair United 3 (Astley 2, 1 pen; McLaughlin)

A tough defeat to accept for Rhos after they dominated the second half.

James Haynes opened the scoring for the hosts in the 15th minute with a neat finish after breaking past the defence.

Two goals from the prolific Josh Astley, one a disputed penalty, made it 2-1 Llanfair at half time, as well as 21 league goals and 27 in all competitions this season for the striker.

Rhos controlled much of the second half, but the visitors did crucially go 3-1 up on the counter through Max McLaughlin.

An Aled Parry screamer from 25 yards pulled it back to 3-2 and in the last 20 minutes Rhos had two goals disallowed and a pair of penalty claims waved away, leaving them feeling a sense of injustice at the end.

Carno 3 Welshpool Town 3

Goals from Joe Morris, plus substitutes Jack Orbell and Adam Biggs earned Carno a home point, Ryan Knott (2) and Joshua Lenc replying for Welshpool.

Dolgellau 2 Penycae 1

Rob Evans’ double bagged Dolgellau the spoils, Jaden Jones with a late consolation for Penycae.

Kerry 3 Machynlleth 2

Kerry climbed out of the bottom two by edging past fellow strugglers Machynlleth.
Tai Jones, Ishmael Ozdemir and Chris Carroll pocketed the home goals, Philip Jones and Mike Straw for the visitors.
