This season’s first full programme of matches in the Rhyl and District Sunday Football League took place today – and there were a number of shocks on show.
Not many would have predicted an away win in today’s local derby at Maes Derw, but Llandudno side The Alex were good value for the result.
Alex went two-up, Mally pulled one back, it went to 3-1 and 3-2 before the visitors pulled clear.
Jack McGovern (2), Jack Williams, Steve Collins and Joey Jennings shared the away goals, Benn Lundstram with both for the hosts.
Rhyl-based Six Bells hit five in a winning start to the season at Rhydwen Drive.
Macca Lewis, Ricky Kendrick, Callum Foster, Danny Taylor and Cole Rich shared the goals for Bells, whose usual home pitch is Coronation Gardens.
Lewis laid on four assists and Tate Walker one.
Matty Rees and Charlie Thorley replied for the Oak.
Six Bells played some good football against a Royal Oak side which went down to nine men in the last 20 minutes due to two injuries. The Oak only had 11 players available. Both keepers made some brilliant saves
Comrades took a two-goal lead before Bar Bow battled back to 2-2.
However, Conwy scored three late goals to take the points.
Jamie Haggas and Callum Parry both netted twice for the visitors, Harri Lloyd also on target.
Kelvin Berks and James Harrison responded for Bow, who failed to build on their opening day success against Royal Oak.
Disappointed was the Millbank reaction to having to settle for a point from their first game of the season.
Matt Toole put the home side in front, but James Olte’s second half equaliser secured a delighted Wanderers a draw.
