Having lost 14-1 at Nomads in the league seven days earlier, Denbigh put up a much better show against the Deesiders at home in Sunday’s Genero Adran North League Cup group two clash.

While the visitors still won convincingly, Town can take heart from aspects of their performance.

In the first 10 minutes there were chances at both ends. Tamara Hamer fired a half volley over the bar from the edge of the box for Nomads, while Denbigh’s Lois Roberts saw her fierce shot brilliantly saved by Charlotte Bolland.

On 10 minutes Nomads were awarded a penalty for a trip on Lauren Davies. Hamer struck a powerful spot-kick but it was saved by Denbigh keeper Netty Young, who guessed correctly and kept the ball out diving to her right.

Four minutes later the visitors went ahead through Shannon Hobbs. A Denbigh attempt to play out from the back from a goal-kick led to them losing possession on the edge of the box. The ball was played across to Hobbs, who finished past the keeper.

On the 18-minute mark Hobbs completed a double when she picked the ball up on the left, beat the left back and charged towards goal on the angle before lashing past the keeper.

Niamh Grimshaw made it three on 23 minutes, charging through the space in midfield and the home back-four to find herself one-on-one before slotting into the bottom corner.

Early in the second half, Kylie Jones added a fourth.

On the hour, Jones had a shot which was saved by her namesake, but Hamer ran from the wing to pick the ball up and finish off the attack with a goal.

Substitute Lani Bouckley, who played for Nomads in their impressive 2019-20 debut season, added a sixth before the end.
