What a weekend for Northop Hall Cricket Club!
Not only did they thrash North Wales rivals Colwyn Bay in a league encounter on Saturday, they then went on to lift the Ray Tyler T20 Shield today.
Harrison Jones struck a magnificent unbeaten 92 as Hall flew the Welsh flag in glorious style to win the Ray Tyler, a tournament competed for within the Liverpool and District Competition.
As well as his wonder innings in the final against Maghull, Jones also hit 78 in the semis, where Hall defeated Hightown St Mary’s.
That semi-final battle saw Hall set 156-6 off their 20 after choosing to bat, skipper Jones’ main innings of 59 balls and including six sixes, well supported by Jamie Hodgson’s 35.
Hightown’s response fell 40-50 runs short, Darren Leach taking three wickets and Josh Andrady two.
So to the final and Hall won the toss again, opting to bat once more.
This time Jones’ undefeated 92 came off just 65 deliveries and contained seven sixes and seven fours.
Fellow opener Alistair Andrady hit 49 in a first-wicket stand of 107.
The Hall finished with 166-4 off their 20 overs.
Maghull were bowled out for 96 in 17, Kieran New 3-15, Will Edwards 3-29 and Jac Kennedy 2-21.
So a second cup of the season for Northop Hall, who also won the Flintshire Knockout Trophy.
And what a performance from Harrison Jones, signed this season and scoring a total of 170 runs on finals day of the Ray Tyler Shield at the Old Hall Field, Maghull.
Darren Leach claimed a season’s best 6-22 as his team Northop Hall dished out a 10-wicket thrashing on North Wales rivals Colwyn Bay at Penrhyn Avenue.
It was also the second-best return of Leach’s career, the right-arm paceman having scooped 6-12 for Connah’s Quay against Brymbo back in 2014.
He has also pocketed 54 wickets in his second season with the Hall.
Colwyn Bay were put into bat on Saturday and only Sion Morris (39) made any impact as the hosts collapsed to 73 all out.
Leach’s 6-22 was well backed-up by Kieran New’s 4-44.
Hall openers Alistair Andrady (40 not out) and Harrison Jones (29 no) then eased to 75-0 in just 16.2 overs to seal a 25-0 points victory.
