Goal machine Ben Kearney has returned to the North Wales club where he carved out a formidable reputation for himself.

Kearney has rejoined Brymbo of tier 3 Ardal North West following a spell with Poulton Vics in the West Cheshire League.

From 2017-2020, Kearney scored an incredible 78 goals in 82 appearances for the Steelmen before leaving the club in February last year.

On returning to the Wrexham-area outfit, Kearney said: “When Brymbo got in touch, it was a difficult decision because of how much I love the Vics and the lads there are all my best mates.

“But unfortunately you don’t play football to make mates and another new challenge is something I definitely needed, so coming back to Brymbo where I spent my best years made perfect sense and I can’t wait to get going with the lads.”

Brymbo general manager Chris Parry said: “I’ve kept in contact with Ben since he left us last year and we always have a good chat and catch up about football.

“Ben knows how highly I rate him as a player and as a person and when I mentioned to (manager) Ricky Evans that there maybe a possibility of Ben signing for us, he was as determined as I was to make it happen.

“Ben’s goalscoring record at this level speaks for itself and we can’t wait for him to join up with the rest of the squad.”

The highlight for Kearney during his previous spell with Brymbo was scoring a hat-trick in a 3-1 win at Flint Town United in the NEWFA Cup.

Kearney is the first of a number of big signings Brymbo plan to announce over the next week as they count down to kicking off the Ardal League season.

Their returning front man is eligible for Brymbo’s first league game of the season on Saturday away to Blaenau Ffestiniog and will go straight into the MD1 squad.

Ben has been kindly sponsored for the season by Brymbo FC club physio and fitness coach – Natalie Brown Fitness & Wellness Specialist.
