Corwen will not compete in the North Wales Women’s Football League this season, it has been revealed.

The team, named among the 12 member clubs at the league’s AGM last week, have been forced to pull out due to lack of regular player availability.

Corwen will continue to play friendlies, with the aim of building a squad strong enough to rejoin the league in 2022-23.

The club’s head of youth development, Ian Evans, confirmed: “We’ve got the numbers. We have 18 all signed to the club, but due to a variety of reasons getting them all available every Sunday would be problematic so we’ve pulled the plug for this season.

“They will play friendly games throughout the season when this year’s 16’s will then pile through to hopefully bolster the numbers and get the women’s team back in the league next season “

Corwen Girls enjoyed major success at under-16 level before entering a senior team in the North Wales Women’s League in 2018-19.

They won promotion to Division One in their first season – being one of four clubs to go up from Division Two.

In 2019-20, they finished next-to-bottom of Division One, but like all clubs suffered from a lack of fixtures due to the harsh winter and then Covid.

Corwen’s resignation now leaves the league with just 11 clubs, namely:

Amlwch Town
Caernarfon Town
CPDM Bangor 1876
CPD Y Rhyl 1879
Holywell FC Girls & Ladies
Llangefni Town
Llanystumdwy
NFA FC
Northop Hall
Trearddur Bay Bulls
Welshpool
