Eight-player Chirk seconds win and Ian Skinner hits best score in 35-year career – Andrew Edwards reports

Ian Skinner scored a personal best 103 for Chirk seconds at Condover seconds on July 17, 2021. It was the second league ton of his career, his first coming in 2006 for Chirk 2nd XI v Conwy 2nd XI when he scored 101. Picture: ANDREW EDWARDS

SHROPSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET LEAGUE

DIVISION SEVEN

CONDOVER 2ND XI 169-10 CHIRK 2ND XI 235-5

It was a fantastic day for Chirk seconds captain Ian Skinner as after 35 years of playing cricket he recorded a personal best score of 103.

And even better, the skipper’s second career ton led to a resounding win for Chirk seconds – who travelled with just eight players!

We shall leave it to Chirk’s own specialist sports writer Andrew Edwards to talk us through the game.

Andrew reports: “I would just love to take this opportunity to tell you about eight-player Chirk Seconds’ win at Station Road, Condover against a full complement of 11 of their second team. We won by 66 runs.

“We posted 235 for five in our allotted forty overs with skipper Ian Skinner carrying his bat for an unbeaten 103. Stephen Connors scored 57 and George Collins made 31.

“Condover Seconds in reply were bowled for 169 with opener Andrew Brooks making 72.

“Stephen Connors took three for 24 off his allotted eight overs, George Collins and Nigel Davies both with two for 25 in seven and five overs respectively, Louis Williams with two for 49 off five overs and Molly-Leigh Connah taking a first ever wicket for the club with the important scalp of Brooks at a cost of 31 off two overs.”

And in typical style, Andrew left us with a stat!

“Ian Skinner averages a truly staggering 176 in three appearances against Condover Seconds.”
