Bala manager Colin Caton believes his team can turn tables despite ‘home’ defeat

Bala Town 0
Larne 1 (McDaid 2)
UEFA Conference League first qualifying round, first leg

Colin Caton is convinced all is not lost for his Welsh Premier team despite their ‘home’ defeat to Northern Ireland’s Larne in Thursday’s tussle at Park Hall, Oswestry.

Bala manager Caton pulled no punches after his team’s disappointing display against a side playing their first-ever match in Europe.

But he saw enough to believe the Lakesiders can turn the tables in the second leg at Inver Park next week.

Larne netted the only goal of the match after just two minutes, David McDaid taking advantage of hesitancy in the home defence to lob keeper Alex Ramsay.

“I don’t think we played well,” said Caton. “We huffed and puffed, I think we lacked a bit of quality in all departments. I think the goal we gave away was horrific – goals change games.

“I thought we were in the game all the way until about the last 15 minutes when they ran us a little bit, the lads were a bit tired.”

Caton added, more optimistically: “Looking at it I’m not overly worried about it and I’m looking forward to going over there.

“We’ve got to be better in big game situations like this. We lacked quality and a bit of composure in the final third and we need to be better next week.”
