Premier Division

FC Queen’s Park 2 Chirk Town 2

Great result for a Chirk Town side playing their first game in the North East Wales Premier Division after promotion against a much-fancied Queen’s Park.
Chirk were dealt a blow before kick off when striker Nick Williams was ruled out with injury. With Shaun Morris and Tom Freeman unavailable due to work commitments, the visitors were without a recognised striker.
Queen’s Park came out the blocks the fastest and dominated the first 25 minutes, Niall Challinor and Barry Torrence looking dangerous.
Caleb Davies had a goal disallowed on 32 minutes for offside.
It was Queen’s Park who took the lead before half time through Challinor.
The second half was a lot better for Chirk after a change of shape. Man of the match Aaron Davies was fouled for a penalty which Tristan Lloyd put away.
However, the ever-dangerous Challinor made it 2-1 to the Park on the hour.
Chirk introduced new signing Jamie Williams, who proved to be a handful for the Park’s back-four.
And it was Williams who headed in the equaliser from close range after a great assist from Davies.
The Tav had chances to win at the death but not to be.
A bad injury to Park keeper Joey Jones late on meant the hosts were down to 10 the last five minutes. Everyone wishes Jones a speedy recovery.

Halkyn & Flint Mountain 3 Castell Alun Colts 2

Paul Williams’ deflected 90th minute effort secured all three points for the home side from a thrilling encounter.
Halkyn and Flint Mountain led twice through Aled Reece and Owen Davies, but were pegged back on each occasion via goals from Nathan Davies and Ben Bailey for the visitors.

Division One

Ruabon Rovers 2 Brymbo Lodge 1

Two new sides met and it was the hosts who edged it.
Owen Bather put Ruabon in front early on, but Dylan Sutcliffe soon equalised with an excellent header from a set piece at the back post.
Owen Mazzarella was red carded for Rovers on 61 minutes. but the 10-men were ahead again in no time through Chris Bennion.
And 2-1 is how it stayed. Lodge coach Kieran Howard said: “I thought our performance was excellent today and worthy of more than we got.
“However, goals win matches and we created chances aplenty – just weren’t ruthless enough in the final third.
“Must say, however, the game was a excellent one and entertaining for the spectators watching on.”

Railway Rovers 17 CPD Bellevue 0

Jordan Lee Valentine set what must be some kind of record by scoring 12 goals on his and his team’s debut in competitive football.
Sam Giles added a hat-trick, Liam Davies and Jack Morris one apiece.
Unfortunately, Railway Rovers did not provide their scorers to the league, but it is early days and no doubt teams are still setting in to their duties.
With wrong scores appearing on the new Cymru Football App via Comet and the clubs, it was not the smoothest of opening days for North Wales football.
