A spirited Brickfield side continued their pre-season schedule with a 2-1 loss against Ruthin.

In the first half, an even contest saw chances for both sides, but it was Brickie who scored the opening goal, Lewis Parry’s cross-cum-shot deflecting in.

After the break, Cymru North Ruthin started to have more chances as the difference in levels began to show.

But it took until around 15 minutes to go for the visitors to equalise as Steff Dolben headed home at the far post.

As home legs got heavier and heavier Ruthin pounced on a mistake from Aaron Jones and were awarded a penalty, which Josh Jones converted.

Another great test for Rangers manager Gareth Wilson and his men ahead of their final pre-season game next Saturday at Clywedog Park against Llanfair United, kick-off 2 pm.

Dolgellau AA 5 (Edwards 2, Jones, trialist, trialist)

A very youthful Dolgellau squad travelled to Ruthin to take on a very good footballing team.

With eight key players missing for the visitors, it was a chance for others to impress, along with three trialists.

The first half was scrappy, slow and with no flow to the game.

The second period was much better and Dolgellau played at a higher tempo, were very aggressive in winning the ball back and looked dangerous going forward.

David Edwards netted twice and Jamie Jones added a single, with two trialists also on the mark.

Dan Dolben notched a deserved reply for Ruthin.

Brymbo Lodge 12 (Snell 5, Edwards 2 Phelan-Edwards 2, Evans, Moore, Humphreys)

Young Ethan Snell led the front line in style for Lodge with five typical striker’s goals.

At only 18, Snell looks capable of being a prolific striker for many years to come.

Cameron Edwards and Luke Phelan-Edwards both chipped in with braces for the visitors.

Morgan Evans, working tirelessly alongside Snell, eventually found luck in front of goal by scoring.

A ball into right wing back Gareth Price-Lovell saw him reach the byline and cross for opposite WB James Moore to grab a goal.

Pick of the bunch was a lovely floating free-kick from Ben Peters headed powerfully home by the towering Joe Humphreys.

Coach Kieran Howard said: “It’s been a fabulous and productive pre-season for our young guns. We now look forward to the challenge of the league.

“We know it’s going to be tough but we have belief in the players and their ability.”

Rhydymwyn 0 Holywell Town 4

Four second-half goals ensured the Wellmen were victorious with Luke Edwards and Dylan Allshorn both scoring a brace.

Another good run out for the Cymru North outfit against their Flintshire neighbours from tier 3 Ardal North West.

Llangefni Town Reserves 2 CPD Gwalchmai 1

Ben Owen and Cai Evans scored the goals which earned Cefni Reserves a narrow win over Anglesey neighbours Gwalchmai.
