Long-serving Denbigh Town keeper hangs up gloves

Denbigh Town’s long-serving goalkeeper Netty Young has decided to hang up her gloves after a 20-year association with the club.

The outstanding stopper was part of the Denbigh side which won the North Wales League in 2014-15 as well as the Betty Pickering Cup and at one time was invited to train with the Wales women’s squad.

She was also in the Denbigh side which reached the Welsh Cup semi-finals in 2015-16.

Based on her long-standing loyalty to the Town, she is believed to be the women’s team’s leading appearance-maker. 

“I’ll miss being between the posts, but my time has come,” said Netty.

“My best achievement undoubtedly was winning the league, and playing against Cardiff City in the Welsh Cup.

“I’ve been lucky enough to train with Wales, but most of all I’ve enjoyed my time very much at Town and being one of the originals still at the club.”

As for the future, Netty said:  “I’m not too sure, but hopefully I’ll get into coaching in some way.”
