Pontblyddyn win low-scorer to remain at Division One pinnacle

Llanrwst (3) 80-10 Pontblyddyn (12) 83-7

Despite a few scares as they chased a seemingly straightforward target of 81 at Parc Gwydir, Division One leaders Pontblyddyn made it over the line.

Winning the toss and deciding to bat, Llanrwst were all out for just 80 and owed much to the innings of skipper Aron Hughes, his team’s only double-figure contributor with 49.

Rhys Jones claimed 3-7 off eight highly economical overs, Ryan Dunning picked up 3-14, James Hughes 2-19 and Jonathan Byrd 2-30.

In reply, Pont lost wickets regularly, but vital scores of 20 from James Griffiths and 17 not out from Tom Dawson helped see them to 83-7 in 28.5 overs for a three-wicket win.

For the Roosters, Alwyn Williams took 2-18 and Lee Thomas 2-23.

Abergele (3) 92-10 Mold (12) 132-10

A low-scoring encounter at Pentre Mawr Park saw third-place Mold emerge victorious.

Choosing to bat, the visitors’ opening pair Richard Crane (30) and Ewan Hill (22) put on 56, but after that it was largely a struggle leading to a final score of 132 all out off 41 overs.

David Moulson stood out for Gele, taking 4-16 off 10 overs, while Lewis Tolond grabbed 2-26.

Mold’s bowlers did even better, getting rid of the home line-up for 92, opener Ben Garnett the chief resister with 31.

Richard Crane completed a fine match with 4-14, Richard Deniz took 2-4 off six overs and John Crane 2-18.

Bethesda (1) 149-8 Halkyn (14) 152-3

Opener Ben Roberts struck an unbeaten half-century as Halkyn cruised to a seven-wicket triumph at Parc Villa.

Bethesda were invited to bat and set 149-8 off 45 overs, Nicholas Parry topping the chart with 38, Andrew Watkin 2-11, Gareth Thomas 2-31 and Roberts 2-36 for the visitors.

Halkyn got to 152-3 in 41.4 overs, Roberts making 53 not out, Nathan Lavender 24 and Jamie Griffiths 22 no to seal a 14-1 points split.

Connah’s Quay (2) 85-10 Hawarden Park (13) 86-5

Michael Wootton and Ian Martin combined to destroy the Connah’s Quay batting card with 4-17 apiece.

Quay called the coin correctly and decided to take first knock, but it backfired atrociously as they were rolled over for 85.

In chasing 86 for victory, Hawarden Park lost five wickets, but reached the winning post in just the 23rd over.

Phil Bradfield (26 not out) and Rhys Johnson (23) made the most important scores, Mali Auty 2-23 for the Deesiders.

Dolgellau (15) 292-6 Bangor 2nd XI (0) 180-10

Opener Sion Francis top-scored with 94 as Dolgellau amassed a winning 292-6 at The Marian.

Morgan Yorke added 68, Phil Leeds 39 not out and Sam Williams 37, Callum McCann with 3-57 for the visitors.

Bangor 2nds were all out for 180 in response, skipper Jamie Davies making 62, Aidan Kelly 30, Jack Williamson 3-26 for the 15-0 victors.
