Pontblyddyn Cricket Club – 2021 North Wales League Division One champions

Well done Pontblyddyn CC 1st XI – the 2021 Division One champions

Congratulations to Pontblyddyn – the 2021 Icon Sports North Wales Cricket League Division One champions.

The Flintshire village club repeated their identical championship success of 2018 after Monday’s 14-1 points win at home to Ruthin put them in an unassailable position.

Pont are undoubtedly worthy champions, having won 15 of their 20 league matches this year and losing just once.

They are now 31 points clear at the summit with just two rounds of matches to play.

The Alder Meadow club were top division title winners for the only time in their history back in 1992. It was known then as Division One, but is now the Premier.

They also lifted the Division Two crown – now the equivalent of Division One – in 1978, when a certain famous West Indian all-rounder Collis King played for them.

The latest glorious chapter in Pontblyddyn’s proud history was written on Saturday when they triumphed in a short-lived encounter against Ruthin.

The visitors won the toss, elected to bat, and were blitzed out for just 56 in 28.2 overs.

Skipper Rhys Jones took 3-5 off seven overs for the champions-elect, Ethan Roberts claiming 2-22.

Pont then cruised to 57-2 from 11.3 overs, Alistair Roberts dominating with 45 not out, and the title was won.
