Llandudno Cricket Club now has a flourishing ladies and girls section.

The ladies team started up last year and played some friendlies and have from this season entered a team in the newly formed North Wales Cricket League for 2021 set up by Cricket Wales North Wales Girls and Ladies Officer Rachel Warrenger.

The ladies played in some festivals and decided in the winter to form their own team for this season. They now train every Friday evening at The Oval, Llandudno and are getting numbers attending training of 15 and 16 and with only 8 players in the team, competition for places is hot at present.

The team is captained by former first team scorer Claire Roberts. The team is made up of ladies whose children play junior cricket and ladies who have an interest in cricket and in keeping fit.

The ladies had their first win of the season last weekend against Northop iand with each game they are improving.

As well as ladies training on Friday, the club are running Dynamos Cricket this summer, an England and Wales Cricket Board new initiative set up this year for 8 to 11-year olds.

The club is unique in the fact their Dynamos are for girls only, and 18 have enrolled for the weekly sessions, which are due to finish on the 23 July but because of the success of this are planning to continue till the end of the season.

The girls are learning batting, bowling and fielding skills, but the emphasis is on fun and enjoyment.

All the girls as part of the sign up for Dynamos receive their own cricket top with their name on from New Balance, and are given cards to collect for players both male and female who are playing in the new Hundred cricket competition this summer.

Club coaches Joe Lambe, Colin Price and Hannah Thornton run the sessions weekly.
