Welsh Premier all-time great Ricky Evans is appointed manager of Brymbo FC

Brymbo Football Club have appointed Cymru Premier legend Ricky Evans as their new manager.

Ricky has a wealth of experience as player, having competed at the top level of Welsh football for over 10 years with the likes of Bangor City, TNS, Connah’s Quay Nomads and Rhyl, as well a three-year stint in England with Oldham Athletic.

Following his retirement from playing full time, his first role as a manager at Lex XI brought him a league title and a number of high profile scalps.

In his first interview with the club, Ricky said: “I can’t wait to get back out there and work with the lads. Brymbo have been a top side for the last few years and have made really good progress on and off the pitch.”

He added: “It’s going to be a good challenge for us going in to the new Ardal League and playing some really good sides. We’re looking forward to building a competitive squad and we’re already looking to bring in some of the best players around.

“I would just like to say thank you (to Max and Chris Parry) for giving me this chance, I just can’t wait to get going.”

Ricky has added the experienced Lee Phelan as his assistant-manager, as well as physio and fitness coach, Natalie Brown.

Brymbo will be announcing more first team backroom staff over the coming days.

Elder brother of Wrexham and Wales defender Steve, Ricky must rate as one of the best attacking midfielders to feature in the Welsh Premier.

Ricky played for no less than 11 different clubs in the top flight and made in excess of 400 appearances in total, netting 76 goals.

He spent three years at Oldham before embarking on a long journey along the WPL road.

His most settled period was with Total Network Solutions between 1997-98 and 2001-02.

In the WPL, he represented: Welshpool Town, Total Network Solutions, Flint Town United, Bangor City, Aberystwyth Town, Caersws, Rhyl, Cefn Druids, Bala Town, GAP Connah’s Quay and Airbus UK Broughton. Latter career clubs included Conwy Borough and Lex XI.
