Valley Athletic celebrate a past success

Another Anglesey football club could be facing at least a season out of the game unless new blood is found to run it.

CPD Y Fali/Valley FC played in the former Anglesey League before becoming members of the tier 5 North Wales Coast West Division One in the new-look Welsh pyramid.

The village club is desperately short of officials for the 2021-22 campaign.

The first team representing Valley the village (not RAF) was Valley Juniors in 1994-95. They stayed in the Anglesey League until 2001-02.

Valley FC rejoined the league in 2007-08, but lasted just two seasons after propping up the table in 2008-09.

In 2013-14 the village tried again, this time with Valley Athletic. On this occasion it all came good as Athletic were crowned 2014-15 champions, making it a treble with the IPP Cup and Assist-a-Claim Cup triumphs. The Elias Cup followed in 2016-17.

The club became known as simply Valley, then CPD Y Valley, then in 2019-20, CPD Y Fali.

Club stalwart Dan Jones said: “For years Valley has survived off the loyalty and commitment of local Anglesey players to get us through seasons, each year being tougher and tougher.

“This year will prove to be our toughest yet due to lockdown and the stop-start of everything. As a club now we need new / old faces more than ever to join the club / rejoin and get us through a difficult period of uncertainty.

“The last thing as a club we want to do is take a year out. So we ask friends/old players/new players to spread the word and if you’re looking for a new club and want a new fresh challenge to help us through this transition period as a club then Valley is the right place for you.”

Island clubs Bro Goronwy and Llandegfan have already resigned from their respective leagues for the 2021-22 season. Both hope to return in the future, with Bro stating they are planning just a year out to rebuild.
