Rhos United hit double figures

Double figures were reached by a dominant home side playing at new venue for the day the Eirias 4G pitch.

The deluge began in the eighth minute when Lewis Sealey proved far too quick for an opposing defender and calmly slotted into the bottom corner.

With both teams trying to play from the back and get the ball down, Rhos struck again on 30 minutes when a beautiful ball over the defence from Tom Skelley released Sealey, who controlled superbly before applying another good finish.

Five minutes before the interval Phemmy Allison put himself on the scoresheet.

Allison was then fouled for a penalty which Tom Brady converted to make it 4-0 at half time.

Rhos made some interval changes, Scott Court being one of them and he wasted no time at all, losing his defender and driving the ball into the bottom corner.

Within minutes Court turned provider as he set up Sealey for his hat-trick.

On the hour, Betws pulled one back, but on 72, Court’s second made it 7-1.

After a fair few attempts on goal Chris King got on the score sheet with a curling effort from outside the box assisted by Calfyn McQuilling.

McQuilling made a big impact on his first appearance since football resumed with two fantastic first-time finishes, the best a powerful half volley brilliantly assisted by Ray Lee with a pinpoint diagonal pass.

The final goal of the game came from an unlikely source. After lots of pressure in the opposition box, the ball fell to centre back Alex Stokes, who shimmied past a couple of defenders before calmly slotting past the keeper.

Rhos manager Bret Durkan said: “It was brilliant to have so many players get some minutes in the bank, but also to play the style we are working on so well.

“A lot of players will take confidence out of the game today. We played some beautiful football throughout the game which made it very hard for Betws to get into the contest.

“We still have a lot of hard work to get to where we want to be, but we are working hard as a team and improving every game.”
