Machno United are the latest North Wales club to announce they will not be competing in the 2021-22 season.
Due to participate in the tier 5 North Wales Coast East Division One, the Penmachno-based club told the North Wales Coast FA on Wednesday they will be taking a year out.
NWCFA president Bryan Roberts said: “I am gutted. For me, Machno United ARE grassroots football. We can only hope they can overcome their current difficulties and we can welcome them back soon rather than later.”
The club is due to release a statement relating to why they have withdrawn from football for a season.
Penmachno first joined the Vale of Conwy League in 1929-30, but achieved no significant success in the few seasons they were there.
The loss of players during the war years meant they did not return to football until 1947, when Penmachno and Cwm Rangers merged to form Machno United.
From here began a long period of success, Machno winning the Vale of Conwy League title 12 times in 1948-49, 1949-50, 1960-61, 1966-67, 1967-68, 1968-69, 1971-72, 1972-73, 1973-74, 1985-86, 1991-92 and 1994-95 before the league folded in 2001-02.
The club also lifted the NWCFA Junior Cup in 1967-68 and 1994-95 as part of a six-cup haul as well as countless other final appearances.
Between 1986-91, Machno spent five seasons in the Gwynedd League where they performed very well, only being denied the title on goal difference by Llanrug United in 1990-91. They also ran a reserve side in the Vale of Conwy League during this period.
Machno’s first team returned to the Vale of Conwy in 1991-92 and won the title as the first attempt. They remained in the league until it disbanded and in 2002-03 joined the new-look Gwynedd League, now made up of two divisions.
In 2004-05, Machno became members of the Caernarfon and District League, where they stayed until becoming undefeated Division Two champions in 2011-12.
The following season, United registered for the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League and scooped the Division One title at the first time of asking.
In the first campaign at Premier Division level, Machno finished an impressive third.
They remained in the Premier for the next five seasons before dropping into Division One for 2019-20.
