Machno United stalwart Delyth Berry steps down

One of North Wales football’s most loyal and respected club officials is stepping down.

Delyth Berry is calling it a day after 22 years as secretary of CPD Machno United.

Widely known as “Mrs Machno”, she has kept the club running through some incredibly tough times, and has helped out at every level.

Whether it be dealing with all general admin, organising fixtures, player registrations etc, attending meetings, helping mark the field, rounding up the team on a Friday night, to even a brief period where she was managing the team herself…..She has literally done it all!

Former Machno manager Owen John Davis said: “Delyth is quite frankly a second mother to so many of the lads who have played for Machno United over the years, and the respect and love, she commands from current and past players alike is a tribute to her.

“Delyth has worked alongside countless managers over the years, and I know from first hand experience that the job would have been impossible without her unwavering support.

“She has overseen the club playing in the Vale of Conwy, Caernarfon & District, Clwyd and Vale of Clwyd & Conwy Leagues.

“In her time with the club, Machno United won the Caernarfon & District and Vale of Clwyd league titles alongside three cup competition wins and countless near misses.

“In recent times she has been instrumental in the club purchasing the football ground and the subsequent development of the new pitch.

“From my perspective she has been Simply the Best to work alongside, and she will be irreplaceable.

“Machno United owes Delyth a debt of gratitude that can never be paid back, and she will be sorely missed. Diolch Delyth!”

Delyth lines up with her beloved Machno United team. Their shirts bear the name Rambo, the nickname of Lance Corporal Robert Martin Richards, a former Machno player who lost his life whilst serving in Afghanistan.

Bryan Roberts, league chairman and president-elect of the North Wales Coast FA, said of Delyth: “This lady has done an outstanding job for Machno and has been their rock.
“She has won the league secretary of the year trophy on several occasions. She is so efficient, reliable and courteous.

“If all secretaries in the league were as capable as Delyth then the league would run on its own. A truly remarkable lady who will be sadly missed.”
