Five goals – all from headers – ensured the blues ran out fully-deserved winners at the Bangor City Stadium.
City and Llanuwchllyn met three months ago in last season’s Ardal North League Cup Final, an occasion where the Citizens needed a late goal to celebrate a 2-1 victory, but Saturday’s clash between this pair of promoted teams was nowhere near as close.
Bangor took a 21st minute lead through Adam Long’s looping header, Cai Owen setting up the chance.
Just four minutes later, Declan McManus’ delivery to the far post was nodded in by Tommy Creamer.
Owen provided the assist again in the 42nd minute for defender Blaine Hudson to score with his head.
Midway through the second half came the latest of the headed goals, McManus with a bullet from a Josh Carey cross.
And sub Corrig McGonigle rounded things off when he headed over keeper Rob Dascalu to make it 5-0 on 85, McManus with his second assist.
Ben Lightfoot was a hat-trick hero for a Rhyl side which produced their best performance of the season by far to date to see off their Powys visitors.
Caersws had often proved tricky opponents for the Lilwyhites in the past, so Paul Moore’s side knew a tough test was in store at the Hops and Barley Community Stadium.
Rhyl started brightly and took the lead after just 10 minutes. Jack Parry turned and threaded a perfectly weighted ball into the path of captain for the day Lightfoot, who lashed beyond keeper Max Williams.
The hosts went close again on 32 minutes when a Joe Ly cross was met by Jack Parry, whose header was well saved by Williams.
Soon after Morgan Murray crossed from the right and Dan Cockerline headed back across goal, only for Williams to make another important save.
From the resulting corner, played short, Parry found himself with the goal at his mercy, but once again Williams denied the Lilywhites.
Rhyl finally found their deserved second goal in first-half stoppage time, Lightfoot scoring direct from a corner.
Caersws came out with greater purpose after the restart and reduced the deficit on 51 minutes. A free-kick near the corner flag was delivered towards the near post, where Ben Pearce reacted quickest to stab home.
Rhyl restored their two-goal advantage on 70 minutes following a superb team move, Murray and Parry combining to find the unmarked Cockerline, who made no mistake from close range, netting his first goal in white.
The Bluebirds refused to give up and pulled another goal back five minutes later, Thomas Edwards firing an excellent strike into the net from around 25 yards.
The visitors were now pushing for an equaliser, but Rhyl continued to threaten at the other end. On 84 minutes, sub Dan Apantaku saw his header crash against the crossbar.
In the 89th minute. Rhyl put the game beyond doubt. A swift move down the right saw Murray cut the ball back perfectly for Lightfoot, who calmly slotted home to complete his hat-trick.
Honours even at The Globe, where Josh Banks edged Port in front from an Osian Ellis assist on 37 minutes before Scott McHarrie levelled after 57, Adam Boydell the chance supplier.
Rhyss Nash’s sixth-minute goal was enough to bank the points for Mold at the MKH Stadium, Alyn Park.
Alistair Williams delivered a 24th minute lead for Guilsfield before Josh Astley equalised after 34. That completed the scoring.
