Triumphant Connah’s Quay Nomads manager Andy Morrison was spot on during Saturday’s after-match interview when he suggested his team and The New Saints’ combined points totals this season might be a league record.

With Nomads finishing on 79 and runners-up TNS 77, their amalgamated tally of 156 points is indeed the highest – since the Welsh Premier became a 12-team league back in 2010-11.

No two sides have ever amassed such a large merged total since the 32-game campaign began 10 seasons ago.

Morrison was commenting as he praised Saints for running his men so close for the crown.

“Hats off, too, to TNS,” he said. “They won their last three, we won our last three.

“We’re on 79 and they’re on 77 so great credit to them. That’s probably the record (combined points) for the top two clubs ever in the Welsh League.”

Saints have not finished outside the top two since 2008-09. They had won eight titles in a row before Nomads stopped them in their tracks last season.

The Quay are just the third North Wales club to win the Welsh Premier in its 29 seasons.

They join the now disbanded Rhyl FC on two titles, while Bangor City have landed three.

Saturday saw the title race go down to the last day for the first time since 2011-12 – 9 seasons ago.
