Two of North Wales football’s top names are refused Cymru Premier licence

Bangor City and Colwyn Bay have been refused a Tier 1 licence for the 2021-22 season.

It means neither club qualifies to compete in the top flight Cymru Premier League – unless they appeal against today’s rejection and win.

Meanwhile, Prestatyn Town, 2019-20 Cymru North champions who were denied promotion to the national league this season on a technicality, have withdrawn an application to be part of the Cymru Premier in 2021-22.

The First Instance Body (FIB) met remotely today to assess and consider the UEFA and FAW Tier 1 applications.

Sixteen of the 24 applications for a Tier 1 licence have been successful, including all 12 of the current JD Cymru Premier clubs and four clubs in Tier 2. In addition, 10 of the JD Cymru Premier clubs achieved a UEFA Licence.

Clubs are assessed on the following criteria:
Sporting: Youth & Coaching
Infrastructure
Legal
Personnel & Administration
Financial and Codes of Practice
The FAW Tier 1 Licence is required for clubs to participate in the JD Cymru Premier and for those clubs who qualify for European competitions, a UEFA Licence is also a pre-requisite.
